Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics has introduced its CBT-LGA-5015, an LGA socket that addresses high- performance requirements for cus- tom-pitch devices. The contactor is a stamped


spring pin with 14.5 gram actuation force per pin and a cycle life of 100,000 insertions. The self-induc- tance of the contactor is 0.98 nH, with an insertion loss of less than 1 dB at 31.7 GHz and capacitance of 0.067 pF. The current capacity of

each contactor is 4A and the socket operates in a tempera- ture range of –55 to +180°C (–67 to +356°F). The socket also contains an IC guide for precise LGA edge alignment. The specific configuration of the package to be tested in the new socket is an LGA with a 3.6 x 3.6 mm (0.14 x 0.14 in.) body size and 0.5 mm (0.02 in.) pitch. The IC is dropped into


the socket and the remov- able lid is closed by latching. Vertical force is applied by the integrated compression springs between the socket lid and compression plate. The socket can be used for hand test, screening modules and for custom burn-in applications with stringent requirements. The sockets have been designed


to be JEDEC-compliant and are available in all standard configura- tions. Custom designs are also avail- able. The socket has a special contact design with an outside spring and


flat-stamped plungers. It is designed to provide excellent electrical signal integrity to meet the demanding requirements of today's analog, digi- tal, RF, Bluetooth, and medical device applications. The socket is mounted using


supplied hardware on the PCB with no soldering and, according to the company, has the smallest footprint
