New Bedford, MA — To meet the growing de- mand for custom battery packs, Epec has ex- panded its New Bedford, Massachusetts, facility by more than doubling the battery pack assem- bly space.

Construction highlights include a new elec-

trostatic discharge (ESD) floor throughout the entire area and LED lighting fixtures with a 50- year life expectancy. Along with this expansion, the company

has created six new positions to support battery assembly production. These jobs include four as- sembly technicians, one quality technician, and one mechanical engineer — two of which are mil- itary veterans. Besides the expansion, Epec has also made

equipment investments that include another battery tab welder from Sunstone Engineering, a Schleuniger wire processor, a Graco MMD

(meter, mix, dispense) machine, ergonomic as- sembly benches, and new test equipment that consists of two electronic power supplies, two electronic loads, and a hipot tester. The additional floor space, assemblers, and

equipment will allow production to increase throughput by a projected 30 percent. The com- pany will now have the options necessary to manufacture custom battery assemblies from scratch to completion more efficiently. Along with the construction, Epec has finalized its ex- panded programs of 5s, lean, and ESD to incor-

porate the new tools and space. Contact: Epec Engineered Technologies, LLC, 174 Duchaine Boulevard, New Bedford,
