SHOW GUIDE
HOW DO YOU MEASURE UP?
With the launch of its new consultative service Washroom 5D at ISSA/Interclean, Kimberly-Clark Professional brings Facilities Managers a free programme that helps to maximise the commercial benefits of washroom excellence. Here, they tell us more about the Washroom 5D programme.
WHY CARE ABOUT THE
WASHROOM? Washroom 5D brings together years of experience and extensive research of the washroom by Kimberly-Clark Professional.
“We know the washroom,” explained Ed Borrini, Target Market Leader for Office Buildings at Kimberly-Clark Professional. “People care about their washrooms, and they notice hygiene often in great detail.”
Research reveals that 71% of office workers think an office washroom reflects on the Facility Manager*.
“So, the washroom is a standard-
bearer for Facilities Managers,” added Ed. “People don’t see that you keep the lifts working, or the lights on and the boiler serviced. But they do see the washrooms, in fact the typical office worker visits the washroom three to four times a day, with an average sized facility that equals more than 1.1 million annual satisfaction or complaint opportunities*.
If you are not taking
care of the washroom, then you are negatively impacting your business and missing a huge opportunity.”
Washroom 5D provides the method for Facilities Managers to maximise the business and commercial benefits of washroom excellence and stay ahead of the competition. The process asks and answers the question ‘How do you measure up?’ It focuses on comparing washrooms against best practice, discovering gaps and problem areas, and then provides the means to improve standards and satisfaction levels.
The programme spans five ‘Dimensions’ of improvement: Cleanliness, Hygiene, Efficiency, Sustainability and Satisfaction, which represent the main areas of the washroom where potential issues often exist.
HOW DOES
WASHROOM 5D WORK? Central to the Washroom 5D process is a site assessment by a Kimberly- Clark Professional consultant with measurement tools.
“The Washroom 5D process shows how Facilities Mangers are doing,” explained Ed. “Most cleaners on site don’t know because they don’t ask tenants for usable feedback and they don’t routinely measure or benchmark against best practice. In short – they don’t know what good looks like. Washroom 5D provides the answers here.
“No other global Facility Management organisation is benchmarking operations, standards or user experiences in the washroom, one of the leading causes of client complaints,” Ed added. “The analysis of data collected by the assessment provides a fact-based and objective view on how a washroom measures up across the five dimensions and how it can be improved.”
With client satisfaction levels often a critical factor in influencing contract renewals, the washroom represents great business opportunity to Facilities Managers. “But what happens is that Facilities Managers get stuck in a reactive problem solving cycle of not putting their effort where it pays off,” Ed continued. “This is what Washroom 5D addresses – it helps discover,

WASHROOM 5D SHOWCASED
AT ISSA/INTERCLEAN 2016 ISSA/Interclean 2016 is Kimberly- Clark Professional’s platform for the introduction of Washroom 5D. “The programme is built on what our customers told us they wanted at ISSA two years ago,” continued Ed. “We asked what new innovation they wanted to see and they answered by asking ‘you are the experts; can you tell us?’
“So, we took Kimberly-Clark Professional’s depth of understanding and unrivalled experience in thousands of washrooms, not to mention our extensive research – and packaged it up into the Washroom 5D programme,” he added. “We have combined our consumer insight with the lean methods from our manufacturing operation with many years’ experience and measurement tools.”
Some of the Washroom 5D consultants are on hand at the Kimberly-Clark Professional ISSA/Interclean stand (11.726) to demonstrate the tools, knowledge and products that can perfect the washroom.
Ed concluded: “If you are at ISSA/ Interclean looking for new ways to improve your cleaning operation or to help you work smarter and give you an edge against the competition – then we believe a Washroom 5D assessment is the perfect place to start. And it won’t cost you anything.”
