FEATURE BETWEEN THE SHEETS

As we continue the build up to the CHSA and BACs-organised conference, REACH For The Cleaning Supply Chain, held on 21st June at the Lea Marston Hotel in the West Midlands, we hear about one of the presentations on the menu, looking at how to effectively manage safety data sheets.

REACH is a business-critical issue for companies in the cleaning and hygiene sector. In force now, the regulation places new responsibilities on the users of cleaning chemicals and increases the burden of data management on the supply chain.

To help businesses in the sector adapt and respond, the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) and the British Association for Chemical Specialties (BACS) are organising a conference – REACH For The Cleaning Supply Chain – on Tuesday 21 June at the Lea Marston Hotel in the West Midlands.

During the conference, several experts from the cleaning industry will make presentations on the regulation, and attendees will have the opportunity

to have their questions answered during a panel discussion, featuring a representative from the Health & Safety Executive.

One such presentation, from Simon Bradshaw, Director of Lisam Systems, will look at the management of safety data sheets, what constitutes the significant changes to the sheets, and how best to respond.

Stephen Harrison, Chairman of the CHSA, explained: “One of the biggest challenges for distributors of cleaning and hygiene products is the management of safety data sheets. Over the next decade new information will be generated for about 100,000 chemicals so the task is huge.”

“We understand the challenge,” added Simon. “Managing ongoing chemical
