• Keep entries as simple as possible – this makes it easier to be read and understood by the judges. If it’s too complicated then judges may miss the important ‘winning’ details and entrants could miss out.

• Use the written submission to clearly show the judges what makes your contract, company, premises, nominated cleaning operative or site supervisor stand out from the rest.

• Ensure that your submission is different to the client testimonial and that all your evidence is measurable.

• Be conscious of the award title and criteria when submitting an application, especially when submitting multiple entries for the same category and/or from the same company.

• Each application MUST be unique and clearly state why the judges should consider the entry.

• The judges will need a good understanding of the facility in terms of site layout and difficulties faced as well as the effectiveness of staff and client communication. So, make sure that you explain how teamwork, good management and techniques are used to address your particular premises’ challenges and cleaning needs.

• Finalists in the cleaning operatives and site supervisors’ category must be aware that at the site visits, judges are looking for dedication, good technique, and certified competence.

• Finally, all entrants selected as a finalist will need to supply a high- quality jpeg of the company logo and photographs of the site(s) being entered.

At the initial entry stage, entrants are asked to complete the online form plus a 1,000 word submission and a client testimonial. Applications for Operative and Supervisor of the Year awards are asked to prepare a submission of up to 500 words. All forms must be completed with contact details for the person responsible for the application, client contact details and a marketing contact.

Certificates do not need to be sent at initial entry stage, but will need to be presented to the judges at the site

visits for finalists, which take place in October and November. If proof cannot be provided of certification at the site visit then points will be deducted which could make the difference in being announced a winner or not.

ARE YOU AWARD

WORTHY? Peter added: “With the 2018 awards we are asking the industry ‘How do you measure up?’ How have you innovated and consistently raised standards, and how does that compare to your competition? Kimberly-Clark Professional has several initiatives which support raising standards and delivering continuous improvement to FMs and cleaning teams. These include The Golden Service Awards which showcases and rewards excellence in the cleaning industry and also our Washroom 5D programme that is designed to help FMs improve washroom standards to such award- winning levels.

“Often the washroom is a missed opportunity. From recent research, we discovered nearly half of office workers do not make a complaint

about poor washroom conditions, even if they are unhappy. This leaves FMs in the dark and problems unfixed, and also represents a missed opportunity to improve standards.

“Our Washroom 5D programme supports FMs to help get to the root cause of issues and continually improve standards to achieve excellent levels of service. It is conducted through a detailed assessment of the washroom across five dimensions: Cleanliness, Hygiene, Efficiency, Sustainability, and Satisfaction.”

The Washroom 5D programme provides FMs and cleaning teams with the process to continually strive towards the industry excellence which the Golden Service Awards aims to acknowledge and reward, thereby driving benchmark standards higher.
