A case study

QR technology in educati on programmes

In response to nati onal and local concerns around inserti on and management of naso-gastric tubes, a training and development

programme aimed at healthcare workers was developed and implemented across our three hospitals.

The training used a blended learning approach uti lising e-learning video supported by a face-to-face component

and a competency based self- assessment requirement. The programme off ered two pathways: 1. Train-the-trainer pathway to enable a senior nurse to cascade the training in their own area and

2. Delegate pathway which was to simply att end a training session and complete the self-assessment.

A bespoke e-learning video and a safety poster were developed as supporti ng tools

to embed the learning in practi ce and retain skills uti lising QR code technology. This meant that healthcare workers in all clinical areas

could scan the QR code on their mobile device and immediately review the e-learning video for refresher training, as opposed to coming back into the classroom.

Future plans

We will drive technological innovati ons forward so that our staff can learn and upskill, anyti me, anywhere, on any mobile device.
