Healthcare libraries: promoting a culture

of learning Understanding the evidence base is vital within a healthcare environment. The healthcare libraries team actively support students/learners to access resources for their studies and also frequently provide one to one study skills support as many have not studied academically for many years if at all. This provision of information and support is an integral part of supporting staff to succeed in their studies and results in many WOW! Award nominations for the team.

In addition to supporting learners the team support staff from across the organisation to access information and resources to inform their clinical and non-clinical work. The direct impact of this on improving patient care can be seen in these impact postcards.

“I am just completing a Non-Medical Prescribing Course. Two weeks ago I had a deadline for submission of a huge portfolio – and in the “11th hour” I emailed the library to ask for some help. Natalie responded to my request with a phone-call within 5 minutes of the email and came across to me in the Nurses Office and spent hours making sense of my pickle.” WOW! Award nomination (September 2017)
