Socorex Celebrating its 50th Anniversary


The Swiss Socorex Isba SA, often referred to as just Socorex, arises from the merger of two companies specialised in the manufacturing of medical and dental syringes, one half a century ago. Shortly after, further to the important development of its international business, it settled down on its current production site in Lausanne.


Thanks to a high technical know-how, to the professionalism of its teams and to a healthy management of its growth, Socorex knew how to permanently adapt and diversify. The company appears at present among the leaders in two business sectors:

This 50th anniversary coincides with the inauguration of a new administration building and the extension and modernisation of the production facilities. Roughly doubled in size, the modern site will support many more success stories in the future.


Some 80 participants originating from 46 countries recently visited the new premises on the occasion of a special worldwide distributor celebration and seminar.

We initially signed up to a couple of ¼ page adverts and the WWEM exhibition in 2010 to trial their advertising and exhibition. Our expectations of the advertising and WWEM paid off massively and since then Aquaread has grown year-on-year and now has an international presence with distributors all over the world. Our advertising budget has increased over the years and we now have many prime spots within the internationally well-known and prized journals.

Haensch has represented top class in the field of polarimeters and refractometers with innovative and trend setting technologies. On the occasion of the celebration of its 150th anniversary in Berlin on April 25th,


Schmidt + Haensch will also launch a new range of its successful EDM-series density meters.


In 1864 the independent activities of Franz Schmidt and Hermann Haensch merged to form what is now one of the oldest companies in the field of optical measurement technologies which successfully sustains its position in the market. We are proud of having participated in scientific breakthroughs by supplying the respective measurement instruments.”


The company is managed in 5th family-generation by Mathis Kuchejda and still is 100% family owned. Currently employing about 50 employees in Berlin, 80% of the exclusively ‘produced in Germany’ instruments are exported to countries all over the world.


Today the product portfolio comprises polarimeters, refractometers, photometers and process analysing systems for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industry. About 15% of the annual revenue is reinvested into research and development of new instruments and methods.


The staff of Schmidt + Haensch provide a high standard of personal and individual customer advice and application support. “We realise ambitious measuring tasks and applications that have not been realised so far. It is important for us to solve the measuring tasks precisely and technically neat. As an ISO-certified company it is of great significance for us to produce traceable and verifiable measurement results comprehensible for the customer.


Beside the classical opto-electronic laboratory instruments we increasingly develop ‘In-Line’ process refractometers. We cooperate with plant construction companies which use the ‘In- Line’ sensors for surveillance and regulation. Thus a system for dealcoholisation, based on one of our process refractometers from the iPR series, was released recently. Besides the known applications in food (sugar) and pharmaceutical industry there are interesting applications in the semiconductor industry, in machine construction and the photovoltaic industry. By expanding our product range and due to the increasing number of applications, we count on a yearly growth of 10%. Therefore Schmidt+Haensch looks optimistic into the future.


After 150 years of existence Schmidt + Haensch will stick to its founding principles and offer their customers high-quality and high-tech instrumentation together with reliable and qualified solutions.
