No Smear. No Smudge. No Question. Expect More Confidence with Every Vial Accurate and Reliable Sample Identification
From sample entry to final reports, everything an analytical lab does revolves around ensuring accurate data and reliable results. Chromatography vial sample identification can be complicated, because once the sample is in the vial, there is no easy way to identify it. Current methods, like hand written or adhesive labels, can be illegible or time consuming, and no accurate, reliable and efficient system for vial sample identification existed...until now.
The Thermo Scientific™ Virtuoso™ Vial Identification System is the most innovative device for ensuring sample identity and sample security ever developed. By providing a fast, accurate, detailed and reproducible system for producing customised sample information directly onto a vial, Virtuoso has revolutionised vial identification.
Productivity Meets Reliability
Designed by experienced analytical scientists, the Virtuoso System will bring greater productivity to your lab. In addition to the time savings gained by eliminating manual labelling, Virtuoso System software speeds your process by providing an automated download of sample lists, on-demand diagnostics and emergency sample labelling. You can input data from the touch screen interface or make use of Virtuoso’s network connectivity. Not only will you gain more confidence in your sample identification, our data shows that you can increase productivity by up to eight times over your current method. That’s a savings of over 200 hours per year for the average lab.
Not Just a Label an Information System
The fully automated Virtuoso Vial Identification System uses proprietary technology to ensure that worries about label permanence are a thing of the past. Resistant to common laboratory solvents, a Virtuoso imaged vial will resist blurring, smudging and withstand the test of time.
Virtuoso enables you to create and image the information your laboratory needs directly on the vial. Text, graphics, barcodes and logos are all possible using the touch-screen interface. Not sure about the types of information you want to use? Virtuoso comes loaded with templates that include standard required information. Want to customise information on the vial? Virtuoso makes that easy with a user- defined custom template capability that you create to fit your needs.
Designed by people who have spent years in analytical laboratories, the Thermo Scientific Virtuoso Vial Identification System will turn vial identification from a necessary chore into added value in your laboratory workflow.

New Vial Identification System Designed to Eliminate Costly Labelling Errors and Boost Productivity
Misidentifying and mishandling sample vials can cause lost samples, botched experiments and costly product recalls. Valuable analytical resources are wasted, laboratories can lose credibility, and, most importantly, false data can hinder downstream operations. The new Thermo Scientific Virtuoso Vial Identification System was developed to mitigate these hazards while also improving productivity.
“Customers tell us that accurate sample identification is a major challenge,” said David Edwards, Product Manager, Vials and Closures for Thermo Fisher. “When data appears to be transposed, there’s an opportunity for this to happen at the collection point; but there may also be seven or more opportunities for samples to get switched in the lab, depending on the workflow. Once a sample is in a vial, there’s no easy way to confirm that it is labelled correctly, and handwritten or adhesive labels can be inefficient at best and illegible at worst.”
Users’ biggest complaints about manual labelling centre around illegible handwriting, smearing from solvents and general degradation over time. The Virtuoso system is designed to solve these problems by printing clear, indelible, detailed information directly on the vials.
The Virtuoso system’s software provides automated download of sample lists, on-demand system diagnostics and emergency sample labelling. Vial identification data can be input using the unit’s touchscreen or directly from the lab network. Thermo Fisher testing has demonstrated an eightfold increase in productivity compared to conventional manual labelling techniques.
Templates include standard required information, and users can customise them to suit their specific needs, including text, graphics, barcodes and logos. The images resist conditions found in most labs, including solvents and handling.
The vial identification system uses Thermo Scientific Virtuoso Vials for optimal performance, available in a variety of dimensions, glass colours and closures. The unit’s sleeve holds up to 10 vials for autoloading.
