34 Order for Large-scale Implementation of the New Coater LC Series Announced

Gebr. Lödige Maschinenbau has received the first groundbreaking order for the large-scale implementation of the new Coater LC Series: in the future, a major German pharmaceutical manufacturer will be using a coating system model LC 150 with a useable volume of 750 l for the organic coating of tablets. Start-up is scheduled for April 2015.

The new Coater LC Series from Lödige was specially developed for coating tablets. The top priority in the conception was optimum process management in addition to ease of operation and ease of cleaning. All three sub-processes, which are relevant for film coating, were optimised: spraying the finish, mixing the tablets and drying them.

This new development distinguishes itself with a new design for spraying on the finish with a low number of jets, which enables a perfect fit with the tablet bed. The innovative technology makes it possible to easily set and automatically control the correct spraying distance and angle at any time, in order to achieve a perfect result. At the same time, the optimum arrangement and number of jets accelerates the process in comparison to comparable coaters.

The recently commissioned coating system is extraordinarily complex: the task requires respectively complex materials preparation technology, especially after a large amount of drying gas is used. In addition, the system is equipped with a specially designed and extensive high pressure jet assembly.

This ensures short processing times as well as superior coating homogeneity of the tablets. To guard against explosions, the entire process takes place in a nitrogen

circulation system. Nitrogen blocks atmospheric oxygen. The oxygen concentration in the unit is monitored continually. During the process the solvent is condensed. Lödige was chosen after intensive experimentation with numerous other coating system providers. Beyond the production of the coater, the order also encompasses the complete

installation and start-up of the unit. The LC coater series will also be a topic at Lödige’s Interpack stand (Hall 3/Stand 3F22). Besides this, a focus will be placed on continuous production processes in the pharmaceutical industry.

Precise Dosing for Fully Automatic CMC Measurements

At analytica 2014, Krüss GmbH presented the Micro Dispenser, a dosing unit for fully automatic measurements of the critical Micelle concentration (CMC). The Hamburg-based manufacturer of measuring instruments has developed the Micro Dispenser especially for the Force Tensiometer K100, which has taken up an established position in the market for some time now. Two combined Micro Dispenser units create the whole concentration series for the surfactant to be analysed directly inside the measuring vessel of the tensiometer. The K100 measures the surface tension between the respective dosing steps fully automatic by using the ring, plate or rod method.

By software-controlled dosing and subsequent removing the added volume between measurements, a vast number of concentrations can be analysed without being limited by the vessel size. Thus, a dilution by several orders of magnitude can be achieved in order to cover the concentration range of the CMC reliably. Since the concentration steps can also

be chosen very close to one another, the CMC can be determined based on a large number of measurements and thereby with high precision. The very accurate dosing volume of the Micro Dispenser minimises the systematic measurement error even for very large concentration series. This also contributes to the precision of the system.

High-Performance Photometer for Clinical and Chemical Analysis of Liquid Solutions

Founded in 1935, ZOMZ (JSC “Zagorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant”) designs and manufactures optical based products for a range of industries.

The company is one of the oldest and well-known manufacturers in Russia of top-of-the-line laboratory equipment intended for industrial, medical and environmental applications. The ZOMZ Lab line includes photometers KFK-3-ZOMZ, portable photometers KFK-5M, flame photometers FPA-2-01, circular polarimeters SM-3, polariscopes-polarimeters PKS-250M, whiteness testers RZ-BPL-TSM.

All purpose photometers KFK- 3- ZOMZ represent an upgraded version of KFK-3 model and include three options: KFK-3 -01-ZOMZ, KFK-3 -02- ZOMZ, KFK-3 -03 -ZOMZ.

Photometer KFK-3-01-ZOMZ is a base model. It is a high performance ergonomically designed photometer intended for clinical and chemical analysis of liquid solutions. Abs and %T measurements in the wavelength range 320-900 nm. Concentration measurements by factor or a standard, by 6 standards. Kinetics measurements at a fixed wavelength.

The KFK-3-02-“ZOMZ” model has a thermostatic cuvette compartment, whereas KFK-3-03-ZOMZ contains a thermostatic flow cuvette and an external thermostat for sample preparation.
