Clinical Chemistry Test Range Expanded The Diatron Group has added 60 new CE marked tests to offer a comprehensive range of high quality clinical chemistry reagents which are complemented by calibrators and controls to meet growing laboratory requirements. The new tests include substrates, enzymes, electrolytes, lipids, specific proteins and special tests. Easy-to-use and safe, the tests’ liquid reagents are ready-to-use and load directly onto the Diatron Pictus clinical chemistry analyser range, for which they have been designed and performance-optimised.


Delivering high quality performance with excellent sensitivity, precision and linearity, all Diatron clinical chemistry reagents are QC-guaranteed. They are manufactured in large


production lots in an ISO9001-certified production facility, where they undergo extensive performance testing for each batch and lot to ensure variation is minimised and shelf-life maximised to up to 24 months.


Designed to meet and exceed stringent customer requirements, the new tests perform at the very highest level of all clinical chemistry reagents. Protein assays demonstrate low interference from hook effect or heterophilic antibodies, whilst a unique Ab-latex binding technique enhances quality in Diatron’s immunoturbidimetric-based assays.


Diatron clinical chemistry reagents are highly stable and require minimal calibration runs, so can remain on the analyser between runs and deliver first class performance at all times. Wide assay ranges in many tests ensure fewer sample repeats, saving laboratory time and cost. All tests are also conveniently barcoded for data traceability and eliminating wastage, with calibrators and controls available in appropriate sizes and formats.


When used in combination with Diatron’s Pictus family of highly economical, automated clinical chemistry analysers, Diatron reagents enable automatic reruns and reflex testing. The Pictus range includes the high throughput, fully automated random- access Pictus 700 system and a medium-throughput, bench top automated analyser the Pictus 400. A new analyser, the Pictus 500, is also in development.

, a ready-to-use ninhydrin


formulation for use in ion exchange chromatography systems with post-column derivatisation for improved amino acid analysis.


The newly launched and patent protected EZ Nin Reagent has been developed to save laboratory time and waste; it requires no mixing or nitrogen and does not degrade with time or exposure to oxygen, providing reliable analysis over time without loss of sensitivity. Challenges encountered with standard ninhydrin include the long preparation process, instability of the reagent, degradation and waste, and batch-to-batch variability. Each batch of EZ Nin Reagent is identically prepared, enabling the reagent to be topped up on the instrument, eliminating waste or the risk of running out during a series of analyses. EZ Nin Reagent is methanol and hydrindantin free.

PerFix-Expose and PerFix-nc, innovative new reagent kits for intracellular staining from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, minimise sample manipulation for a streamlined workflow that delivers high quality results. Developed for use on Beckman Coulter’s Gallios and Navios series flow cytometers and compatible with all Beckman Coulter Life Sciences’ fluorochromes, the kits enable a clear focus on the cytoplasmic and nuclear compartments of the cell.


PerFix-Expose (phospho-epitope exposure kit) helps scientists identify and explore complex intracellular signalling pathways disrupted by cancer and other diseases. It allows fluorochrome-coupled antibodies and other probes to enter into cells, their nuclei and other cell compartments, where they bind to proteins relevant to signalling pathways that have been disrupted by disease.


Cell fixation is accomplished using a cross-linking agent, while permeabilisation of white blood cells and lysis of red blood cells is achieved using a detergent. A denaturing agent ‘unmasks’ proteins bound to other proteins or DNA.


Beckman Coulter researchers developed the kit for use with whole blood, bone marrow or other fluids containing blood. Samples are fixed in small test tubes or deep-well microplates and the reagent is mixed with the cells. The kit can be used to study a variety of other intracellular and intranuclear antigens.


With PerFix-nc (no centrifugation), researchers can perform concomitant surface and intracellular staining for flow cytometry to take advantage of a new approach that provides easy access to the inside of human leucocytes.


Analysis of multiple intracellular epitopes, or multiple intracellular markers along with cell surface markers, is accomplished by straightforward fixation, permeabilisation and staining of leucocytes from peripheral whole blood, together with erythrocyte lysis.


The preparation is performed at room temperature, without the requirement for wash or centrifugation steps, and can be performed manually or automated on workstations such as the Beckman Coulter Life Sciences Biomek platform.


PerFix-nc kit quality is characterised by mean fluorescence intensities and consistent performance in repeatability studies, as demonstrated by levels of cell recovery. The kit offers an original and powerful leucocyte permeabilisation method followed by an optimised fixation step in a process that involves only 15 minutes of hands-on user time.
