William Clarence Caldicott was born in Poplar, London, on 17 May 1899 and commenced his naval service as a Boy 2nd Class on 5 March 1915. He was paid his war gratuity when serving in H.M.S. Osborne and his medals for service in the Great War were sent to H. M.S. Excellent. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in July 1932, issued to H.M.S. Warspite.

Harry Caswill Coleman was born at Barnsley, Yorkshire on 15 May 1895, and commenced his naval service as a Boy 2nd Class on 17 February 1912. His Great War medals were issued to him for service at H.M.S. Vivid along with his war service gratuity. He received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1 July 1928.

Albert Victor Gill was born at Chiddingfold, Sussex on 20 August 1897 and commenced his naval service as a Boy 2nd Class on 17 July 1914. He joined H.M.S. Lion in March 1915, and served in Lion for the remainder of the Great War, being present in her at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in October 1930.

William Glover was born in Plymouth, Devon in April 1898. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in September 1913, and advanced to Able Seaman in August 1916. Glover served with H.M.S. Tiger, 3 October 1914 - 1 December 1917, and was present at the Battle of Dogger Bank, 24 January 1915, where her Q-turret sustained a direct hit; and the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916, where the Tiger was hit a total of 18 times during the battle, and suffered 24 dead and 46 wounded. Glover was Shore Demobilised in November 1919.

Rowland Hill was born in Stratford, Essex in February 1886. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in October 1902, and advanced to Able Seaman in September 1905. Hill transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve in April 1913, and he served with H.M.S. Euryalus (cruiser) in the Dardanelles, and the Royal Naval Depot Port Said.


Hill subsequently served with H.M. Ships Osiris and Repulse, before being demobilised in June 1921. 220 Four: Able Seaman S. J. Parker, Royal Navy

Sydney John Parker was born in Norwich on 1 January 1895, and entered naval service on 21 January 1913. His Great War medals were sent to H.M.S. Barham, and he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in March 1928. He was shore pensioned in December 1928.

Alfred Windmill Smith was born in Twickenham, Middlesex, on 20 June 1892 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 11 June 1908. Advanced Able Seaman on 10 November 1911.


He served for the majority of the Great War in the Destroyer Depot Ship H.M.S. Diligence, and was invalided out of the service on 1 September 1919.

Edgar Smith was born in Rock Ferry, Cheshire in January 1879. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in October 1896, and advanced to Able Seaman in January 1899. Smith served with H.M.S. Canopus (battleship), August 1914 - May 1916, during which time she was engaged in the Dardanelles Campaign. He was ‘Invalided’ out of service in July 1916.
