NEWS CPS NEWS CPO ROSE MARIE PARR TO RETIRE IN JULY
Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) has announced that funding for Scottish pharmacies will be increased by almost £5 million in 2020-21 as part of the new three- year deal.
That means that the money available to community pharmacy in Scotland will increase by £4.586m from £183.559m in 2019-20 to £188.148m in April 2020. The funding will also increase by 2.5 per cent each financial year – next year increasing by £4.6m, after an increase last year of £2.6m, under the latest three-year agreement.
‘The CPS Board were pleased to finalise this three-year deal,’ said CPS CEO, Professor Harry McQuillan, ‘a first for the pharmacy network, with Rose Marie Parr and her team. This agreement provides stability and predictability for the community pharmacy network, Scottish Government and NHS Health Boards, allowing adequate time and space to develop and embed pharmaceutical care services. Community pharmacy now has a real opportunity to focus on making a success of the NHS Pharmacy First service, alongside developing a coherent career framework and independent prescribing strategy for community pharmacy. These opportunities, alongside the initial investment on offer, recognises the value of pharmacy teams and the network within primary care and gives a platform on which we can build. We look forward to working collaboratively with stakeholders to realise these ambitions in the coming years.’
The new deal was welcomed by, among others, the National Pharmacy Association.
‘This is a vote of confidence in Scottish community pharmacy,’ said NPA Chief Executive, Mark Lyonette, ‘and will lead to a significant improvement in patient access to NHS healthcare. The Scottish Government, pharmacy negotiators and pharmacy teams across Scotland are working in partnership to develop services in line with a clear strategy and that is to be applauded.’
