managers and always making herself available when necessary.

One of the great characteristics that Rachael possesses is her willingness to share her knowledge. Whether it’s new information that she believes could benefit her pharmacy colleagues, or helping the store’s first aiders with the correct practices and training on things like defibrillators, Rachael will always make herself available. This is not only limited to her colleagues in store; she has visited the local schools in attempt to educate and inspire the local youth to consider a career in pharmacy or the medical profession as a whole.

The staff of Silverburn shopping centre have got to know Rachael well over the past few years, as she has helped numerous customers, who have fallen ill whilst shopping. She does not discriminate against those who aren’t Boots customers and prefers the ‘open door’ policy. If someone is in need, and Rachael can help, she will.

Rachael has never been happy to just go to work and get the job done, but instead insists on seeking new ways in which both she and her team can improve. During her time at Boots Silverburn, Rachael has overseen several transition periods for the pharmacy, and, with her guidance, the pharmacy has blossomed in to a necessary service for the local community and a perfect example of a pharmacy that Boots can be proud of.

The judges were greatly impressed by the difference Rachael has made to the pharmacy.

‘Rachael,’ they said, ‘goes out of her way to provide help and support for patients and focuses on their wellbeing, as well as their health. Rachael Smith has transformed her pharmacy from one that is underperforming to one that is the busiest for flu vaccinations and a centre of excellence for smoking cessation. Her passion goes beyond pharmacy as she dedicates time to educate and raise funds for charity.’

‘Winning this award willl encourage many pharmacists to keep doing what we are doing. It will inspire us all to keep going’ Rachael Smith

‘It's great for everyone in the pharmacy profession to see what's happening in this business, to see what people like Rachael are doing. Rachael is a great example of the innovators, the people who are driving this profession forward. It's great for everyone to see’ James Kane, Senior Territory Manager, Teva UK Ltd
