VSL 3# Poly-biotic Food Supplement

previously manpower heavy tasks to dedicate to clinical care.

The new premises have also given the team the opportunity to strengthen their relationships with various teams, including the Addiction Services Team. The installation of a Methameasure – something they would previously not have had the space for – has allowed them to grow this aspect of their business and they now provide methadone to a substantially increased number of patients. This was an element of the business, which was previously difficult to develop given the space restrictions and less-than-ideal layout.

Prescription volume is currently up two per cent on last year and OTC sales are up more than four per cent on budget despite the reduced front shop area and offering. Income from services is up substantially on last year – more than 40 per cent so far this year. The biggest increase is showing in the pharmacy’s support of their substance misusing patients. This is undoubtedly as a result of the refit,

installation of the Methameasure and the team’s subsequent work on developing their relationships with the Addiction Service.

The pharmacy is going from strength to strength and this is entirely down to the team’s hard work and commitment. Whilst their morale and pride in their pharmacy environment had undoubtedly dipped, the fact they have a new pharmacy has reinvigorated their obvious passion to deliver the best possible pharmaceutical care to their patients.

The judges felt that this was a good business model with increasing business.

‘Throughout the lengthy process of a difficult refit,’ they said, ‘along with significant changes to their way of working, Well Alloa have continued to excel at a breadth of pharmacy services. Their close relationship with the local NHS Board, resilience and patients have paid dividends to the local patients, who are now better served with a pharmacy fit for the future.’
