Nottingham regeneration plan revealed
Nottingham City Council is calling on businesses and residents to have their say on plans to develop an area around the intu Broadmarsh shopping centre and the historic Nottingham Castle. A draft Broadmarsh West masterplan, along with a draft development
brief for the Central College site, on Maid Marian Way have been developed by the council, setting out the vision and framework for future developments in the area. Once approved, these documents will help inform and guide
developers as and when new development opportunities come forward. A redevelopment boom is underway in the southside area of
Nottingham, with £2bn of projects on site, about to start or open to discussion, in a 0.5 square mile area of the city centre.
‘The City Council is actively planning for the next phase of developments in the city to continue to drive regeneration, create jobs and boost the visitor economy’
These include the dramatic redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh, the
new Broadmarsh car park, bus station and new Central Library, alongside Nottingham College’s City Hub and the new tourist experience at Nottingham Castle, a public sector led £250m investment, which will bring 3,000 jobs, £1.1bn of economic growth over a decade and three million more visitors a year to the city. The Broadmarsh West area of the city is the next planned phase of
redevelopment. This could provide a new key visitor route through to the castle and
could be redeveloped to include a brand new green public square, jobs, homes, small retail, offices, tourism, and a high-quality hotel. The proposed plans include the redevelopment of the Central College
site which will be vacated later this year when students and staff move to the new £58m Nottingham College City Hub.

them with new public areas, pathways and viewpoints and to protect and enhance the landmark views to and from the castle. Cllr Linda Woodings, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Heritage at Nottingham City Council, said: “The draft Master Plan and Development Brief help set out the city’s long-term vision and provide guidance on how developers can help meet our aspirations, which includes creating a brand new public square, building new homes and enhancing the views to and from Nottingham Castle. “We are proud of our past and ambitious for our future, so we are
encouraging people to get involved and be part of the city's exciting plans by having their say.”

Crown Commercial Service supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services. In 2018/19, CCS helped the public sector to achieve commercial benefits worth £945m – supporting world-class public services that offer best value for taxpayers. Operating within the Midlands for
over 128 years, and with offices in Derby and Birmingham, this is the second national, central Government framework secured by the regional contractor, following its current appointment on the Department of Education’s Construction Framework.
