CHAMBER NEWS
Huge response to Chamber’s range of virtual events
A record number of delegates engaged with the Chamber’s new online events and training programme in April, as businesses continued to embrace new ways of working. Earlier this year, the Chamber launched a programme of business resilience events, aiming to equip members with the knowledge, skills and experience they need to develop and grow, following three years of political and economic uncertainty surrounding Brexit. However, as the coronavirus
situation developed and lockdown restrictions came into force, the entire programme was switched online to a virtual delivery model. In April, a programme of 68
events – a mixture of webinars, training, Chamber forums, MP Briefings, online networking and Q&As – for members and non- members took place, with more

than 1,500 delegates engaging with the programme. The programme of virtual events
will continue throughout May, with more being planned for June and beyond. Diane Beresford (pictured), the
Chamber’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: “The response to our online events programme from the business community has been phenomenal. “Within a week of the
Government’s lockdown restrictions being introduced, we had created and launched a full programme of events, developed by our network of procured expert suppliers, which businesses have really engaged with. “We engaged with at least three
times the amount of businesses that we would normally have done had we held physical events. “This reflects the appetite of
businesses to not just embrace new
technology and ways of working, and also highlights the need for events which deliver the type of practical content that helps businesses to increase their skills, knowledge and expertise in bite- sized chunks and level-up their resilience. “Covid-19 is affecting us all, but
as we look to the future, our delivery of virtual sessions will be a central part of our offering, to complement our face-to-face workshops, expos and flagship events and make our programme as accessible as possible to businesses of all sizes and locations.”
We have another full month of online webinars, events and training planned in May and you can find details of all the forthcoming events on the Chamber website at www.emc-
