MEMBER NEWS Production switches to face shields

Chesterfield-based manufacturer Specialised Canvas has designed, prototyped and produced a new face guard to support frontline medical staff, switching production in just three days. The company’s prompt response

came following a request from a care home.

‘We are fortunate to be in a position to support the nation’s key workers in these unprecedented times’

Specialised Canvas, which has a

25,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Staveley, Derbyshire, has a track record of producing other products

for the healthcare sector, including isolators, but it is the first time it has created face shields. Despite having closed its doors recently

following the lockdown announcement, the company had designed, prototyped and delivered the face shields to the client by the Friday afternoon, having only received the enquiry on the Thursday. Sam Bramah, Director at

Specialised Canvas said: “We’ve gone from closing our doors and not knowing when we might open them again, to manufacturing an entirely new product into a new market in a matter of days, which really is testament to the great team we have working here. “Thanks to our facilities,

infrastructure and skilled team we are fortunate to be in a position to support the nation’s key workers in these unprecedented times and play our small part in the ongoing battle.”

Specialised Canvas plans to

produce up to a 1,000 units a day, while practising social distancing and adhering to all Government guidelines. Orders are already being distributed to care homes, social workers, nurses, GPs and supermarkets.

Fast move for firm during crisis

A manufacturing company has recently bought its own premises in Derbyshire so it can respond to the coronavirus outbreak. In a deal brokered by

Salloway Property Consultants, Tamper Technologies has purchased a warehouse building on Ashbourne’s Airfield Industrial Estate. The company offers a

catalogue of hi-tech products including security tape, bag and carton tape. Such equipment is potentially vital during the transport of equipment during the crisis. Salloway Property

Consultants surveyor, Hugo Beresford, said: “Business is still underway during coronavirus crisis. “Despite the difficult

conditions arising from the pandemic, not only does this deal demonstrate that the demand for the right property remains, it shows that the property market is still functioning. “With co-operation on all

sides, it is still possible to complete property transactions quickly.”

SmartFlow allows users to communicate and manage third-party drivers

Microlise provides app for free

Microlise has announced it will provide its SmartFlow driver subcontractor management app free of charge to existing customers during the coronavirus outbreak. SmartFlow allows customers to track the location of

temporary and third-party drivers, manage tasks, workflows and communications and collect proof of delivery information. Users are also able to provide the app to subcontractors or contract-based drivers, with data feeding into the app. With increased levels of consumer buying fuelled by

Covid-19, supply chains face heightened challenges which are likely to persist. The app will be free to download for the duration of

the coronavirus crisis to both to customers not currently using SmartFlow and to customers who

already use the application, with any increase beyond ‘typical usage’ incurring no additional charges. Nadeem Raza, Chief Executive at Microlise, said: “Our

customers are depending on our mission-critical systems as never before. We are doing all we can to support their efforts and have identified SmartFlow as a valuable support tool in the current climate. “SmartFlow will allow our customers to add additional capacity, secure in the knowledge that they can manage the operational impact in an efficient, effective and transparent way. We are working closely with our customers to proactively identify areas where Microlise can provide additional support - SmartFlow is just one offering that can support operators who need to bring additional drivers on-stream.”
