PRODUCTS & SERVICES Oceanwide Expeditions’ next steps with Resco


Netherlands-based Oceanwide Expeditions is expanding its partnership with Rescompany Systems to include on-board point of sale and property management systems technology.


The expedition cruise operator already uses Resco’s central reservations and customer relationship


management systems, as well as the Resco Web API to handle online bookings. Michel van Gessel, ceo of Oceanwide Expeditions said, ‘Integrating Resco’s on-board management components is the logical next step, and we’re looking forward to continuing a successful partnership in this expanded capacity.’

management solutions, we’ll be able to provide 360-degree customer insights across each facet of the Resco platform,’ Resco managing director Peter Winqvist said. Oceanwide Expeditions’ fleet of five– counting 2019 newbuild Hondius–joins more than 140 ocean cruise ships operating Resco’s PMS and POS systems for seamless management of embarkation, on-board sales, excursions and more.

TECHNICAL CMV trials butter dispenser


Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) trailed a butter dispenser available at the onboard self-service dining areas. As part of the company’s on-going strategy to reduce environmental impact, the new dispensers will minimise wastage and single use packaging.


Announcing the move Bob McGowan, director of product & guest services said ‘We are committed to doing what we can to reduce waste, single use plastics and packaging on board. This is a great idea and it is also more hygenic when dispensed in this manner.’


Initially the trials took place on board Magellan at the Raffles Bistro and when buffet style breakfast is served in the Waldorf and Kensington restaurants. If the butter dispenser proves successful then the system will be put in place across the whole fleet said CMV.


Using a patented cooling system, the dispenser processes the butter in small servings. Within three seconds of a passenger placing a plate below the dispenser, then pushing the button, out pops a portion of fresh butter onto a plate below.


ACT CleanCoat being introduced fleetwide by Lindbald Expeditions


Lindblad Expeditions is implementing Premium Purity, a cleaning system that creates a cleaner, healthier ship while drastically reducing environmental impact. The new system, ACT CleanCoat, is a photocatalytic process that works when illuminated, breaking down bacteria, viruses, mold and airborne allergens. It can be applied to all surfaces to make them self-disinfecting. room like an invisible insulation while purifying and deodorising the air for up to one year.


Chemical-free, the product uses the ACT ECA water system created by electrolysis of salt and water to clean rooms in a way that is completely harmless to passengers, crew and the environment. Following a one-year trial aboard National Geographic Explorer, the system is going fleetwide. Tschampel said guest- reported illness declined by 50%, more than 1,000 plastic bottles of cleaning products were eliminated and water usage


was dramatically reduced by 1.1m gallons per year.


In 2019, the company became carbon neutral, offsetting 100% of emissions from its ships, all land-based operations, employee travel, offices in New York and Seattle, and other contributors. Guest-facing, single-use plastics were eliminated fleetwide in 2018, and Lindblad has operated a sustainable seafood program for many years.
