Fincantieri fast tracks Vard reorganisation


T


he Fincantieri Group reported a 9.7% increase in revenues in 3Q 2019, compared to 2018, a total backlog of more than


€32bn with 96 ships to be delivered up to 2027. Late last year it also secured two new-generation luxury expedition cruise vessels for Ponant to be built by Vard.


However, the positive operating performance of the Group has been impacted by the negative contribution

RINA has been a frontrunner in the cruise industry with LNG, having classed Meyer Werft-built AIDAnova for AIDA Cruises as the first ever LNG-fuelled cruise ship delivered in 2018.


One year later, Meyer Turku delivered Costa Smeralda to Costa Cruises, the new flagship of the Genoa-based cruise company classed by RINA as well.


Now RINA is looking at hydrogen ‘the most common element on Earth’ as an alternative energy: ‘In addition to being able to transmit and store large quantities of energy, it can be produced in many ways and including from renewable sources,’ said Andrea Cogliolo, senior director marine business development RINA.
