Kanazawa Welcomes Its Newest Attraction — The Kanazawa Port Cruise Terminal!

GRAND OPENING APRIL 2020 Kanazawa Port Cruise Terminal Kanazawa Port, located near the center of Japan, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020.

Commemorating that turning point, major infrastructure improvements were made to the port, including refurbishment of the wharf designated for cruise ships.

You’ll be amazed by the details of the newly built KANAZAWA PORT CRUISE TERMINAL...

Waiting area

In 2019, Kanazawa Port welcomed 50 calls in total, 20 of those being turnaround calls which see passengers embark and disembark. As even more turnaround calls are scheduled in 2020, Kanazawa Port is sure to become the main cruise hub along the Sea of Japan. In this new terminal, the spacious CIQ (Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine) and waiting areas are capable of handling 4,000 passengers within two hours. Tourist information, a currency exchange machine, and, of course, Wi-Fi service are available. The terminal also offers parking for 400 cars and can accommodate 100 tour buses.

This new terminal is not only functional but also features the elaborate traditional designs of Kanazawa that allow you to experience the real Japan. The first things you will see after entering the terminal are two large ocean-themed pillars. Serving as a welcome to the area, each one is decorated with traditional crafts made by local artists who are recognized as National Living Treasures. These pillars also make a great spot for your first sightseeing photo opportunity in the area. In addition, the floor- to-ceiling glass walls on the waterfront side of the building allow you to enjoy the stunning sunset and sea views.

CIQ area

From the restaurant on the second floor, you can overlook the cruise ships and the harbor as well as the light-up scenery of the port at night. As the sun is going down and the sky darkens, the terminal building and the harbor are illuminated with colored lights that change every five minutes. The passengers can enjoy these views while the ship is leaving the port.

Also, you won’t want to miss the other features of the terminal, such as the Seminar Room with its large-scale monitor, and the Learning and Experience Room which is equipped with the Kanazawa Port ship navigation simulator—the largest in Japan, comprised of 14 monitors, each one measuring 70 inches! These features enrich the experience of each visitor at Kanazawa Port.

Kanazawa Port is well known as an area where traditional arts and crafts are still celebrated, and passengers can enjoy one of them right on the pier. Locals wearing traditional Kaga Yuzen Kimono welcome each guest as they take their first steps into Kanazawa. The heartwarming hospitality will only multiply as guests experience all that the new terminal, and the region, has to offer.
