Office space up for grabs
Aspiring entrepreneurs can win a year’s worth of free office space, worth up to £18,000, at various city centre-based buildings across the North and Midlands. The ‘Win Your Dream Office’
competition, organised by workspace provider Bruntwood Works, is open to small businesses and entrepreneurs who can enter by writing a short business pitch and submitting it by 27 October. A shortlist of candidates will
be invited to pitch their business plans in person to a panel of expert judges next month. The winner will receive an all-inclusive serviced office for up to four people for a year, complete with free wi-fi and cleaning services, as well as access to facilities such as a communal lounge and kitchen with free tea and coffee, phone booths and bookable meeting rooms. Bruntwood chief executive
Ciara Keeling said: “By providing free office space in inspiring workspaces, the up- and-coming business will hopefully be able to put their profits elsewhere and further expand their success.” The winner can choose to be
based in either Birmingham, Manchester city centre, Old Trafford, Liverpool or Leeds.

Refurbishment is planned for prime city centre office
A prominent office in the centre of Birmingham is undergoing extensive refurbishment, which will include the creation of a new glazed entrance facing Snow Hill Square. One Colmore Row’s entrance is
being redesigned to create an enlarged reception space with meeting areas, a coffee area and ‘touchdown workspace’. The new entrance lobby looks
out on one of the busiest spots in the city centre, and among the users are commuters using Snow Hill station. Associated Architects is designing the £1.2m programme of refurbishment works, which will give the building a new identity and create a distinctive, modern
interior style, with additional facilities such as cycle storage and showers.

Construction consultancy Wakemans has begun work on a new £110m industrial development at the thriving St Modwen Park, Gloucester. Wakemans is a long-time partner
of developer St Modwen, and on this scheme will act as employer’s agent, quantity surveyor and principal designer/health and safety adviser. The scheme, will create 935,000
sq ft of industrial and warehouse space across 14 units at the 58-acre Stonehouse Lane site, which is four miles south west of Gloucester. The scheme will be built in

acquire Tweedale Birmingham architect MDG Architects has bought out Wolverhampton rival Tweedale. Tweedale has particular expertise
in education, healthcare, office and commercial, as well as industrial and distribution. Among the firm’s most recent high-profile projects has been the transformation of the former Coniston House office building in Wolverhampton. MDG is based in the Jewellery
