4. Budget for some members of staff to be trained as mental health first aiders so that they are alert to any possible issues and to be points of contact if staff feel they need to talk. Some people may still not be comfortable talking to colleagues but if there is a framework in place they can be signposted to people or organisations who may be able to help them as soon as possible.
5. Make sure processes are implemented so staff can continue to feed you ideas and be fully engaged with the process. This will boost staff morale and motivation.
6. Put together a programme of wellbeing activities based on the survey and decide if they are going to be funded by the business. Not everything has to cost money. For example, have walking groups where people can enjoy some fresh air over a lunch break and talk to their colleagues but in a less stressed atmosphere or organise social events after work. Other activities do not have to be expensive such as mindfulness groups, yoga at work or massage treatments.
7. Are your employees the type of people who relish challenges, teamwork and raising money for charities? You could incorporate all of these into your health and wellbeing programme and as part of your corporate social responsibility. Teamwork and competition are healthy and good for the soul!
8. Broadcast what you are doing. Show that you are a great place to work, use social media, your website, talk about your health and wellbeing activities during the interview process, make people want to join you.
Salary is not the only consideration when looking for a job. A health and wellbeing policy is a must for business in the 21st Century if you are to attract the best talent and retain them. Looking after staff and showing them, they are an asset to the team and
highly valued, will harness that feel good factor. Happy employees are more productive, loyal and efficient which is good for them and good for the company’s bottom line.
