Birmingham Museums have launched a range new of corporate patrons’ schemes, giving businesses the opportunity to support the charity and align their brand with the city’s culture, heritage and world-class collection. The new corporate opportunities programme is based on a tiered


structure with a range of opportunities to unlock, including reaching Birmingham Museums’ 1.2 million annual visitors. Starting from £500, the schemes offer the chance to engage with Birmingham Museums’ nine museums and historic properties, including the internationally-renowned Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. More than 400 extra trains could serve Birmingham every day under Midlands Engine Rail - a £3.5bn improvement programme to transform the region’s rail network. Under the plans, launched by


sub-national transport body Midlands Connect, Birmingham will enjoy more frequent trains to and from a number of destinations as well as a new direct HS2 service to Nottingham via the East Midlands Hub at Toton, which would cut journey times from 85 to just 33 minutes.


Designed to be delivered in


stages from 2022 to the completion of HS2 Phase Two, Midlands Engine Rail plans to create space for 736 more passenger trains on the network each day – with 416 of these services running in to and out of central Birmingham. Birmingham is one of up to 60


locations that could benefit from improved services, including

Leicester, Coventry, Nottingham, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe, Shrewsbury, Lincoln, Worcester and Wolverhampton. Midlands Engine Rail is fully


integrated with HS2 and includes plans for two new conventional- compatible services that will directly link Nottingham and Leicester city centres to the new high speed network. Improvements will increase the


speed and frequency of existing services as well as introducing new direct services. It is also designed to reduce carbon emissions and encourage both passengers and freight off the roads and onto the railways. Civic and business leaders are


now calling on prime minister Boris Johnson to back Midlands Engine

New flights


to Scotland Budget airline EasyJet is launching a new route between Birmingham and Edinburgh from next March. The new inter-city flights will


operate 13 times a week throughout the year, and will be launched on 29 March 2020. This is the second Birmingham route EasyJet has announced in as many weeks, following the news that the airline will begin flights between the Midlands and another key Scottish city, Glasgow. The Glasgow service will share the same start date and weekly frequency as the new Edinburgh flights. EasyJet’s UK country manager Ali Gayward said: “We are confident the new service will be a popular addition to EasyJet’s network with those looking to travel both for business and leisure.” Birmingham Airport chief


executive Nick Barton said: “Scotland is a popular destination not only for tourists but business passengers too, and we look forward to welcoming the additional services from March 2020.”
