Charity partner for Asian Chamber awards revealed

Club lunch raises £2k for

hospice Professionals have raised £2,000 for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice at a charity fundraiser hosted at Simpsons in Edgbaston. The corporates raised the

funds at the Phoenix Business Lunch Club, which was organised by SEO agency Bootcamp Media, which hosted the lunch for the second time. Bootcamp Media’s managing

director, Jamil Shabir (pictured), said: “Birmingham St Mary’s holds a special place in my heart after staff at the Hospice cared for my uncle, Mohammed Muneer, a couple of years ago. “When my uncle was

diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, it was a really difficult time for him and our family but Birmingham St Mary’s were there for us every step of the way. I will always be grateful for having that support, which is why I wanted to raise funds for the charity at the Phoenix Business Lunch.” The hospice supports more

than 400 people, providing care in people’s homes, in the community, at its hospice facility and at the hospice’s inpatient unit.

The Asian Business Chamber of Commerce will be raising money for Your Trust Charity – the charitable arm of Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust – at this year’s annual dinner and awards. The charity raises funds for a

number of projects, including an appeal for the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, the 670-bed super-hospital in Smethwick.

‘The new system, will provide more control to parents and care staff alike’

Construction of the hospital has

been halted since the collapse of construction giants Carillion. Funds raised at the Asian

Business Chamber dinner and awards, on 7 December, will go towards Your Trust Charity’s the Midland Met Hospital appeal. Amanda Winwood, fundraising manager for the charity, said: “Funds raised by the charity enhance the experiences of all those using our services. “Funds raised from the ABCC

Annual Awards and Dinner will be used to purchase a MorphoAccess Sigma Lite fingerprint scanner for the Neonatal Unit. “It means parents will be able to

access the department with a simple scan of their fingerprint, ensuring staff can continue

delivering care to our youngest patients.” Qasim Majid, president of the

ABCC, said: “The work Your Trust does is much needed. “Myself and our executive

committee were very impressed by how the money raised would be utilised towards improving access. Having had first-hand experience of

wanting quicker access into wards, the new system will provide more control to parents and care staff alike.” The awards take place at the

National Conference Centre, at the Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.

Light up your building to raise awareness

Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity is calling on local businesses to turn their buildings pink and blue in recognition of those have experienced baby or pregnancy loss. The campaign - part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, between 9 and 15

October - raises awareness of key issues affecting bereaved parents, as well as driving change and improvements in care and support. Approximately 2,000 women experience loss at the hospital every year. In April, the charity launched the Woodland House Appeal, a new £3.5m

appeal to establish a bereavement centre where heartbreaking conversations can take place with couples, in a private and comfortable environment. The appeal has so far raised £500,000 and the charity is hoping to

highlight the appeal during Baby Loss Awareness Week, by encouraging local organisations to illuminate their premises pink and blue at night. Saranne Moreno, corporate strategic partnerships manager at Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity, said: “By lighting up your building this Baby Loss Awareness Week, you’ll be joining hundreds of other businesses and organisations up and down the country who are trying to break the taboo surrounding baby and pregnancy loss and give a voice to the thousands of families this impacts every year. “Families like ours, who we are committed to providing support and care

for, by making Woodland House a reality.” For further information visit bwh.org/woodland-house
