The Chamber takes its place in ‘Innovation 50’


Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) has been ranked as one of the Midlands’ most innovative businesses. The GBCC - and its work on the Business Brexit


Health Check – features in the biennial ‘Innovation 50’ campaign by law firm Mills & Reeve. The Business Brexit Health Check is a free


online tool designed to help business owners asses their Brexit preparations. It provides firms with a personalised report


with links to further guidance and resources. Henrietta Brealey, policy and strategic


relationships director at GBCC, said: “Being included in the Mills & Reeve Innovation 50 is a real source of pride for us and validation that we are pushing the boundaries of what businesses typically expect from a local Chamber of Commerce. “Sitting behind our Brexit activity is a


genuine determination to help employers navigate the most significant change to the UK’s political and trading relationships for a generation for the good of the local business community.

helps businesses cut through the noise and confusion surrounding Brexit and generates anonymised data to inform decision-makers.” Steve Allen, head of the Birmingham office at


Mills & Reeve and Chamber vice president, said: “We launched the Innovation 50 in 2017 to celebrate Midlands businesses at their most enterprising, confident and creative. “Two years on, and the buzz around the region has only grown – with the quality of 2019 entries showing that we more than live up to our national reputation.”

Four new members join Chamber council


Four business people have been appointed to Birmingham Chamber council. The council, made up of 30 representatives


from the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) group, act as conduits to membership and help steer the Chamber’s policy and campaign activities. Through Chamber council, GBCC has delivered


a number of campaigns designed to aid Greater Birmingham businesses including Growth Through People, which focuses on boosting productivity, and Raise the BAR, a business adaptability and resilience initiative. Eddie Fellows, highway network director for


Amey, and Mark O’Sullivan, managing director of BanaBay, have been elected onto the council by fellow Birmingham Chamber of Commerce members. Doug Wright, from Douglas Wright T/A McDonald’s, and Judy Groves, marketing director at The Rigby Group, were co-opted onto the council by the Chamber board’s appointments committee. The committee identified that Doug and Judy


were active supporters of the Chamber and were from two sectors, hospitality and IT, not previously represented in Chamber council. All new council members will serve for three


years.
