Take some time for yourself, whether it’s a sick day, a
mental health day, or a vacation day. Validate your own grief without feeling like it needs to be validated by others. A pet was loved, and their death will come with its own grief. Secondly, take care of you

in the way that’s right for you. If you feel you’ll be shamed for your grief, then find other pet lovers that will understand your emotions. If the bond you had with a pet was ot understood, then the emotions of grief won’t be understood either. It is what it is. Find those that will support you. Thirdly, don’t shame
yourself for your grief. You loved a precious animal, and their death will be hard. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to take care of you.
Lastly, when you’re trying to make sense of your emo-
tions in the death of a pet, think about what you would say to a friend telling you the same story you’re telling yourself. What would you say to a friend? How would you support them or give them care in their grief journey? Whatever it is you would say to them, say that to yourself.
