Mallory, Fausto and Truman, for whom Seadog Cottages was named, have all crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Losing Truman earlier this year was particularly hard on both Mick and Desanya, and even Louie. “No more dogs for awhile,” they both seemed to agree. Until Desanya saw a Border Collie online at Ewenity Farm Herding Dog Haven. She made an appointment to go meet him. Reluctantly, Mick agreed.


as a Golden Doodle, I’m photogenic, handsome, and the size of a small sailing ship, the humans who run this joint made the decision, years ago, to put a Border Collie on the Seadog Cottage logo. Something about Golden Doodles just not looking the part, they said. So, I welcome Captain to the Seadog family. Stop by and rub his belly the next time you’re in town. You know the saying here: Sit. Mick, Louis and Captain Alive or not, in this universe or somewhere beyond, dogs

It turns out on the day they were to meet the dog, Truman’s ashes were ready to be picked up. “This just isn’t right,” said Mick, driving, while Desanya held onto the box containing Truman’s ashes. “Let’s just go and see. The drive will be good for us,” said Desanya. The rest, as the say, is history as the dog who would be


renamed Captain walked over to Mick and Desanya, plopped down and rolled over. He looked and acted so much like Truman. It is believed that he survived being abandoned as a stray


in rural Gainesville for close to a year. Emaciated, he was picked up and placed in a shelter before being found by Ewenity Farm. “Now, Captain will work directly under the supervision of
