books, movies, music & more... OUR FAVORITE PICKS FOR BOOKS, MOVIES & MUSIC, WHERE DOGS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE.
We receive so many wonderful books about dogs for review, and lately, we’ve seen a substantial number of books geared towards
Queen Elizabeth in the royal limousine.* When the photograph went viral after the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, people wanted to know more about the now royal Beagle. Before Guy was known as Guy, he was a stray dog, found in
the woods of Kentucky in 2015, and taken to the local shelter. When no one claimed or adopted him, A Dog’s Dream Rescue called the shelter and agreed to take the Beagle to an adoption event 500 miles away in Milton, Ontario. At the adoption event, a woman who was working in Canada at the time, saw the Beagle, fell in love and adopted him. She named him Guy. That woman was Meghan Markle who was working on the TV series Suits. Meghan and Guy did everything together: went on walks, played fetch.
After Prince Harry and Meghan become engaged, Guy tells Amelia and her dog Jenny, standing in front of Goody Goody Burgers.
the younger dog lover. We’re fortunate to have a junior rover reporter on our team who loves to read. We asked her to review “His Royal Dogness, Guy The Beagle,” written by Mike Brumm and Camille March. The illustrations are by EG Keller, who also illustrated the bestseller “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.”
“I soon learned that an animal shelter is a lot like a public restroom – you want to spend as little time in one as possible.” – Guy The Beagle from “His Royal Dogness, Guy The Beagle.”
While this is a fictional story, it is based on a true one. Amelia
(age nine) and her mom enjoyed reading it together. “I love reading bedtime stories with Amelia,” said Andrea Gonzmart Williams. “And this one had a little bit of history, involving the royal family. Of course, one of our favorite parts of the story was that Guy had been a shelter dog.” You may recall Guy the Beagle, who famously sat next to

the story of his trip to England to meet the Queen and the royal guards “wearing black Poodles on their heads.” Would the Queen welcome Meghan to the royal family? And if yes, would Guy be accepted too? You’ll have to read the book to find out, but we can tell you:
Guy was in dog heaven among the proper and well-mannered squirrels in the palace gardens. “My favorite part of the book was when the dogs were just
being dogs, and doing dog things,” said Amelia.U
*The photo of Guy riding with Queen Elizabeth that went viral was initially misidentified. It was said that the two were on their way to the royal wedding. In actuality, the photo was taken the day before the royal wedding.
