reality sound bites. Do You Believe In Love At First Bark?

Was it “love at first sniff” for the pets in your life? If you’ve always wanted to plan a wedding but don’t have a human one in your future, or your pets would love to “make it offi- cial,” SPCA Tampa Bay has just the event for you. They’re planning a romantic celebra- tion on Saturday, February 16th for all pets that have found the love of their life— or nine lives, in some cases— and wish to be joined in mat- rimony. Each pet couple will stand before an officiant to bark or meow their heartfelt vows (with a little help from their humans, of course). Dog parents will choose

from several available packages that offer varying degrees of personalization and glamor. Choose to be the “main event” couple, and have all attendees celebrate with you, or sim- ply join in the group ceremony. Invite your friends to join in

the fun. The venue will be the SPCA Tampa Bay Largo campus, outdoors, with tents and tables set up and decorated for the occasion. A toast will be made to all

Couples will also have a chance to win a pup-approved honeymoon package filled with fun goodies and activities donated by local businesses throughout the Tampa Bay area. U Saint Leo University’s Paws of Love.

When Saint Leo University’s Office of Student Affairs was looking for a new service project, animal rescue quickly came to mind, and Paws of Love was created. The university community is supporting the new project, which will benefit two rescue services and two shel- ters: The Humane Society of Pasco, Pasco County Animal Services, DC Dogos, and Destiny for Dogs. Paws of Love will complete its mission through fundraising, volunteering, and making pet toys out of recycled materials such as old T-shirts. Student volunteers are also baking pet treats and putting together pet first-aid kits. These items will be donated to the rescues and shelters to sell and some items will be sold to those in the community. In addition, monetary donations are being collected. The nonprofit is a model for students,

showing how philanthropy makes a posi- tive impact in the community, said Heidi D’Ambrosio, senior coordinator for Student Affairs, who leads the Paws of Love effort. To date, Paws of Love has donated

more than 55 pounds of pet food to Pasco County Animal Services. Students with Paws of Love have committed volunteer time to clean the shelters and walk dogs. Paws of Love volunteers also assist

commuter and residential students at the University who have service and therapy dogs. Another event that the students will be hosting is Pizza and Puppies, to help relieve stress during exams. Therapy dogs will visit campus while students grab a slice of pizza. During New Student Orientation, Paws of Love volunteers bring therapy dogs to welcome new students. Lucy and Robert Avila of Dade City

brought their own Scottish Terriers, Abby and Scotty McDuffy, to one of the events. The Avilas promoted the 10th annual Dogs’ Day in Dade City to the students, to be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Agnes Lamb Park. “We’re looking forward to another fun day and having Paws of Love attending as a vendor,” said Lucy Avila. “The Dog Wagon Parade has become such a tradition. Participants seem to outdo each other every year.”
