Tito’s Handmade Vodka - Part of Hurricane Rescue Efforts in the Carolinas and Florida.
Hurricane Michael was the strongest hurricane to hit the Florida Panhandle in recorded history.
GreaterGood.org began gathering emergency supplies to ship to those people and pets left behind in Mother Nature’s path. Hurricane Michael made landfall on Wednesday afternoon, October 10, 2018 as a Category 4 storm, and just two mph shy of a Category 5. The record-breaking 155 mph wind speeds were the strongest ever to hit the Florida Panhandle, causing catastrophic damage and loss of life. Mexico Beach, Florida took a direct hit and was nearly wiped off the map by Michael’s landfall. Homes were destroyed in Florida and Georgia, and 1.4 million residents remain without power throughout the southeast. The road to recovery for this storm will take months. Many animal shelters in the path of the storm were left without power.
from shelters in the Carolinas. Over time, these animals are finding second chances at rescue groups across the country, from Seattle to D.C.

Mike Merrill, delivering dogs to safety. Dog Bar St. Pete created a Tiny, getting ready to head out of harm’s way in Florida. Wings of Rescue (
WingsOfRescue.org) and
Greatergood.org partnered with Tito’s Handmade Vodka (the vodka for dog people) to raise money to fly pets who were in shelters prior to Hurricane Michael. The efforts were necessary to make room for incoming pets displaced by the storm, who needed to be sheltered until their families can be reunited with them. The partnership was already in the throes of rescue efforts
after Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas in September – collecting funds and supplies to fly in to damaged areas and flying pets to safety across the country. Tito’s Handmade Vodka sent a message through social media that it would match all donations up to $20,000. By September 19, 2018, the fundraising match was funded not once, but twice with 100% of donations raised going to pets affected by both storms. BOOTS ON THE GROUND Mike Merrill, with Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR) went to
Wakulla Animal Services in Crawfordville and Union County Animal Services in Lake City to take a total of eight dogs in from those shelters. Both shelters were in the path of Hurricane Michael. Merrill was also on the ground before Hurricane Florence, pulling more than 120 dogs and cats
