Wanna Whole Latte Love.

It’s true – The New Barker runs on coffee. Over the years, we’ve discovered dog-themed coffee roasters whose coffees not only taste delicious but who are doing a lot to help shelter dogs. We’ve picked a few of our favorite roasters.

Story by Anna Cooke. Photography by Dylan Harmon.

Buddy Brew Coffee There are now five Buddy Brew Coffee bar locations in the Greater Tampa Bay area, including Sarasota, and a Buddy Brew Coffee Brew Truck. Buddy Brew Coffee is also being sold in Publix and Whole Foods. Buddy, for whom the coffee is named, belonged to

co-founders Dave and Susan Ward. The Labrador Retriever mix had been part of the couple’s life since he was three months old. When Buddy passed a few years ago at the age of 16, the Wards put their name on the waiting list at Southeastern Guide Dogs to adopt a dog. Occasionally, a dog-in-training doesn’t quite make the cut and either finds a new job within the organization or can be adopted. They received a call soon after, letting them know that a Yellow Labrador was available for adoption. While no dog could ever take Buddy’s place, the family, including the couple’s young son Cole, decided to name their new dog Buddy. Through their Brew Good Do Good mission, each

year Buddy Brew Coffee allocates a budget just to support community activities, events and causes, including Metropolitan Ministries, Southeastern Guide Dogs, and area animal shelters. “From the Brew Good perspective,” said Susan,

“we are focused on creating exceptional coffee, find- ing farms that grow the highest quality coffee and rewarding the farmer by paying a fair price. We hand roast each batch to bring out the aromas. From the Do Good side, we want to bring people together over coffee and build community. We love what a dog represents – bringing people together.”
