It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me… and I’m feeling good – well actually we are feeling rather velvety with the new soft feel cover on Style of Wight Magazine.

2019 is full of promise and excitement as I reflect on some of the big developments and changes made in 2018 that are now coming to fruition: we expanded the numbers on our workforce taking advantage of the wealth of professional writers and photographers on our little Island – always the pool of talent never ceases to humble me; we developed our online presence with the launch of Augmented Reality, and the new Style of Wight website is just about to go live!

This is the time of year when personal reflection and the intention to make changes or try new ideas is at the forefront of our usually busy minds. January this year sees me opting for a vegetarian diet and, with thought, this will also echo into other areas of my life. For my editor’s letter, as we start 2019, I’m going to share with you some of the inspirational quotes and thoughts that often help shape and drive me personally and professionally. These have a powerful influence on the content and essence of each magazine you read…

I hope you agree we have again set the local media bar pretty high with this, our first instalment of 2019. So here are some thoughts to ponder as you reflect on the year ahead.

Before anything else, preparation is the key to success. Alexander Graham Bell

He that knows himself, knows others. Charles Caleb Colton

Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. William Faulkner
