NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

The New Year is a great time to take stock and set fresh ambitions for the year ahead - even if you’re a seasoned professional. Roach Pittis’ Managing Partner Chris Prew has been doing just that...

Like many of us, at the turning of the year Chris is contemplating his New Year’s resolutions:

Keep Calm and Carry On

It would be easy to become embroiled in all the worry about the markets, Brexit, the Conservative government’s issues, anti-Semitism and everything else. Panic usually leads to making the wrong move; a calm approach is best

Avoid jargon and people that use it

Expressions like “touching base” “thinking outside the box” “handheld device” (phone) “blue sky thinking” “let me play devil’s advocate”

Do what I tell my clients to do

Review and update my Will and get a Power of Attorney prepared Be cybersafe

The flip side of technology is that it has opened up a whole new range of risks. Cyber security is a major danger. Constant vigilance alongside investment in safe technology is required.

Generate less waste A

fter schooldays at Arnold School, Blackpool, Roach Pittis’ Managing Partner Chris Prew knew he wanted to follow a career

in Law. An LLB Hons Law Degree at the University of Wales, Cardiff was followed by an Articles/Training Contract with a general practice firm in the same city. He was admitted to the roll as a Solicitor on 8 January 1982 and joined a large Personal Injury Practice. On moving to the Isle of Wight later that year he joined Roach Pittis as a Solicitor and in April 1983 he was admitted to Partnership.

Chris has always undertaken Personal Injury and General Civil Litigation work. Between 1983 and 1993 he also undertook a significant workload of Criminal work and was one of the firm’s specialist Advocates. He now concentrates wholly on Personal Injury, Civil and Commercial Litigation and Employment Law. Chris leads the firm’s Litigation Department and is a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

Everything is overpackaged. I have been shopping in a way that generates less waste and I have made an effort to reduce the waste created by the firm.

Empower

We employ amazingly talented people at Roach Pittis, I need to encourage them to make the most of their abilities.

I am going to make the most of living on the Isle of Wight. We have some quite amazing venues for dinner and entertainment on the Island and I should go to more of them, more often.

No! Just amusing myself, though it will be on many people’s lists.
