THE LADIES SECTION Tese years were also very successful for Long Ashton in County Competitions


and the Bristol and District Alliance. Te Club won the Watson Williams Foursomes Cup in 1961, 1962, 1965, 1968 and 1981 (Miss Ruth Porter and Mrs C. Lyon won it three times). Long Ashton won the Alliance League Shield in 1960 and 1965, the Alliance Scratch Foursomes in 1959, 1960 and 1969, and the Handicap Foursomes in 1959, 1960 and 1962. Ruth Porter was made an Honorary Life Member of the Club in 1959 aſter she won the English Ladies Open Championship. New competitions were introduced and prizes donated in the 1950’s. Mrs Peggy


Box , the Ladies Captain in 1958 presented two Cups for the Winter Foursomes. Ten years later, Mrs Griffiths, returning to Canada aſter a happy time at Long Ashton, presented the Maple Leaf Trophy. Tese were followed by the Lampard Salver in 1973, a Jubilee Salver in 1977 and a Cup for the Gross Competition donated in 1978 by Mrs J. Bennett (see Chapter 15 for details). She won the


following events and was runner up in many more: Ford Ladies Classic, Swedish Ladies Open 1984 Jersey Ladies Open 1986 Hennessy Cognac Ladies Cup 1987 St Moritz Classic, Godiva European Masters Champion 1989 Troia Ladies Masters, English Open Champion 1991 BMW European Open Champion 1992. Member of the successful Solheim Cup Team which beat the USA 1992. Kitrina was made an Honorary Life Member of the Club in 1982 (Plate 40).
