RONALD MILNE Ronald Milne has been a member of Long Ashton since 1971 and, as a golfer,
Ron has no great claim to fame, a competant 11 handicapper would be a fair description of his prowess with a golf club. However, as Professor of Engineering Mathematics at Bristol University he has conducted a five-year research programme on the role of the shaſt in the golf swing with the support of Dunlop Slazenger. Computer simulation combined with direct measurement of shaſt bending
during the swing showed that the difference between R, S or X shaſts is minimal, a result also confirmed by player tests. Tis work was reported at the First World Congress of Golf held at St Andrews in 1990 and published in the Journal of Biomechanics Vol 25, No 9 pp975-83 (September 1992).
