Te selection of trees was made following advice from local Forestry
Commission staff that young two-year-old transplanted seedlings should be used (30-40cm high). Te trees were staked and protected against rabbits for three years and golfers were allowed a free drop. Grass competition was checked by herbicides and water was applied as necessary in drought periods. Since 1964, planting has continued at intervals of 4 or 5 years and several hundred trees were planted in 1971. Te younger trees include the following:
