99 BICKNELL BOWL: Presented by Mr & Mrs E. Bicknell in 1948 Greensome


Stableford Competition for married couples. Important dates on the Ladies Calendar are those of the twelve Monthly


Medals, 4 Extra Medals played under the Rules of the LGU. Long Ashton is one of the few Clubs to maintain the long standing tradition and award a silver spoon to the winner. In addition, Monthly Stableford Competitions are held, and also competitions


for charitable causes, e.g. RNLI, Cancer (MacMillan Nurses Appeal) and the Golf Foundation (to promote Junior Golf). Tere are qualifying competitions for the Coronation Foursomes (Famous Grouse), Te Daily Mail Foursomes, Dunhill Masters, Dunhill Winter Merit and Benson & Hedges Mixed Foursomes. Two special days during the year are Lady Captain’s Day and Invitation Day.


Te Ladies 1st Team plays in the Bristol & District Alliance matches (singles played off scratch), and selected pairs are entered in the Alliance Inter-Club Foursomes, both scratch and handicap competitions. Many ladies are members of Gloucestershire Ladies County Golf Association


and play in Competitions arranged by the County. Long Ashton enters a selected pair in the Gloucestershire: Scratch Foursomes for the Watson Williams Trophy. Te winning pair in a Club Handicap Foursomes. Some ladies belong to the Gloucestershire Veterans Section, and enjoy further competitions and matches. For former Lady Captains, the Gloucestershire Captains’ Society is very active and enjoyable. Te Ladies 2nd Team engages in friendly matches, both singles and foursomes


played off handicap. Recently, Mixed Foursomes matches have been introduced, followed by a social supper. Tere are individual awards to encourage and challenge, namely:-


LGU SILVER & BRONZE MEDALS Awarded for the four best medal scores in each division, for the year February 1st-January 31st.


RUTH PORTER AWARD Awarded for the six best Medal Scores in one year from November-October.


WHYTE & MACKAY AWARD Awarded to the player with the most improved handicap from 1st August to 31st July.


BIRDIE AWARD Awarded to the player with the most birdies in Competitions, in both Silver and Bronze divisions.
