1. Why are you passionate about your specialty? I feel that there is a great need in our country to provide al-
ternatives to drug therapy and surgical procedures which can sometimes be avoided by providing a natural non-toxic treat- ment solution.
2. What sets you apart from other practitioners in the holistic fi eld?
As a licensed MD I am able to provide, when necessary, medications along with our natural treatments to achieve the best results. We also provide injectable vitamins, which can have a much greater effect than taking oral supplements.
3. What can patients expect from working with you?
We offer a friendly, relaxed healing environment where patients concerns are given the time and attention needed. I practice individualized medicine, not a cookbook approach.
4. What plans do you have for the future for your practice?
We are growing our practice of regenerative medicine and making more people aware of the options of Stem Cell Thera- py and Platelet Rich Plasma treatments which can sometimes improve conditions not considered to be effectively treated by any current existing drugs on the market. This may allow a patient to avoid the need to have surgery.
5. Tell us about the best memory you have about being a holistic practitioner.
Seeing patients respond to a natural therapy that they were
unaware existed because they were only informed about conventional drug therapy always gives me a feeling of great satisfaction. I have helped many patients who had previously seen a number of conventional MDs who could not help them with what is the current standard of care in conventional medicine. I was able to help one patient have a much faster recovery from a stroke and I helped another elderly man suc- cessfully improve his tremors. Both of these patients provided testimonials which can be seen on my website.
6. What do you like the most about being a part of Natural Nutmeg?
I appreciate the opportunity to expand the universe of people who are aware of the effectiveness of natural healing approaches.
7. What is your favorite place to travel, your favorite food, and your favorite hobby?
I love to play the guitar, travel anywhere new, and eat ethnic foods not always easy to fi nd at home.

John C. Maxwell III, Hunt Hill Farm
H
unt Hill Farm is a nonprofi t dedicated to of- fering public programs for children, youths and adults to nurture a deeper understanding of food, art, music, and land use. Since its inception by Ruth and Skitch Henderson in 1972, Hunt Hill
Farm has been a favorite gathering place for our Litchfi eld Hills commu- nity, as well as chefs, musicians and artisans alike.
1. Why are you passionate about Hunt Hill Farm?
I’m a recovering Wall Street guy who was asked to evaluate the future of a family run nonprofi t organization one year ago. I discovered an amazing opportunity to create a platform to be a nexus of food, art, and music for our local community. The programs, workshops and events draw upon all the arts whether it be organic food, ceramics, music, per- forming art, or fi lm making. Artists might be on retreat to work on their craft while also offering programs to the community.
2. What sets you apart from other holistic centers?
HHF offers opportunities for families, youths and adults to experi- ence and to feed their mind, body and soul through an immersive and vibrant experiential learning campus. Our differentiation is the ability to mix and connect food, art and music as different mediums to pick it, cook it, play it, or make it. We started an open mic night every Thursday to connect with local musicians, discover emerging talent and connect with potential mentors for our programs. What sprouted is a fabulous community of extremely talented musicians where on any night, we don’t know who’s going to show up and what chemistry is going to be created, but somehow every night magic is created.
3. What plans do you have for the future? Recently we began to show more of the connection to health & well-
ness with food, art and music. In addition, we are now offering yoga and meditation with the hopes to expand them. Next year we plan to build out the visual and the performing arts area with programs and work- shops for children and young adults during the summer. We hope that the Litchfi eld community will discover us, and as a result will invest in our high impact programs or become a member.
4. Tell us about the best memory you have about Hunt Hill Farm.
Darrin Benham, our groundskeeper of 14 years, and his wife Jen pre- sented me with a stained-glass guitar that Jen crafted herself as a symbol of passing the torch to me as the new President; they believed in me and our mission. Darrin doesn’t like to get up in front of large groups of people, yet he presented the guitar at our open mic night, and it remains one of my greatest honors.
