Business Spotlight The Graduate Institute

he Graduate Institute is a state-accredited graduate school with an integrative and holistic orientation, offering Master's Degrees, Graduate Certifi cates, and Certifi cation programs. Our edu- cational culture provides graduate education that

T

nourishes the growth of individuals’ intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual lives.

Dr. Kimberly Layman, DC L

ayman Sport and Family Chiropractic is a chiro- practic practice unlike any other. Dr. Layman is

devoted to high quality, patient centered care using evidence-based chiropractic techniques, advanced myofascial release and specifi c therapeutic exercise tailored to your needs.

1. Why are you passionate about your specialty?

I became a Doctor of Chiropractic because I have personally witnessed the holistic healing that occurs with proper muscu- loskeletal care. With a properly functioning and pain-free body, every aspect of life is positively impacted. Giving people the tools to stay well and helping them to feel better without the use of prescription medication is a beautiful thing.

2. What sets you apart from other practitioners?

My practices are truly patient-centered, dynamic and applica- ble to a wide range of ailments. Chiropractic care treats not only the joints of the spine, but also the soft tissues associated with spinal and extremity biomechanics. I take pride in ensuring that my patients feel heard, and that they receive quality overall care, including suggestions for lifestyle modifi cations to stay well.

3. What can patients expect from working with you?

First and foremost, they can expect results. To reach their health goals, patients can expect a collaborative decision-making process, high-quality chiropractic care, and education about their condition. In turn, I expect my patients to participate in their care as actively as I do, and as such, educating them on their diag- nosis, cause of dis-ease, and treatment plan is crucial. Using a methodical, effi cient approach, the patient and I work together to reduce their pain, improve their function, and develop the strategies needed to continue their wellness.

4. Tell us about the best memory you have about being a holistic practitioner.

My most gratifying memories are of helping those who were

failed by other areas of the healthcare system. I have had the pleasure of evaluating and treating several patients who were told by every other specialist, “there is nothing we can do”. Having the education in musculoskeletal and myofascial biome- chanics allowed me to treat the patient in front of me instead of trying to fi t that patient into the rubric of a textbook. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is the ability to restore hope to patients who have faced so much adversity in the healthcare system.

Popover was started in June 2014 by 3 women with different food sen-

We would love to expand our catering business as well as potentially open a new location! 4. Tell us about the best memory you have about owning Popover. Every time a young person takes a fi rst bite of our gluten-free Belgian
