Recognition for council’s cycle centre project

A Council-led project to create two new cycle centres in Broxtowe has been named as a finalist of the inaugural People’s Award by the Transport Planning Society. The award recognises the

most significant transport planning initiatives of the year. The organisers invited communities to demonstrate how transport planning projects had made a positive impact in their local area. The Stapleford-based scheme

has seen learn-to-ride lessons for beginners, and on-road training sessions for improvers, provided to Broxtowe residents of all ages. Support was also provided for journey planning and the purchase of equipment. Almost 300 cyclists have benefited from the centres. Key members of the Group

have been invited to celebrate reaching the final stages at a special ceremony in the House of Commons, hosted by the Chair of the Transport Select Committee, Lilian Greenwood MP. The overall winner will be announced this month at the Institution of Civil Engineers, in London. Helen Hemstock, CEO of the Sustainable Travel Collective, said: “I’m thrilled our work to increase the uptake of cycling among Broxtowe residents has been recognised. Encouraging more people to travel by bike will ease traffic, benefit the environment, and create a healthier, happier community.”

A place on the shortlist for Bennett Engineering

Loughborough-based design consultancy Bennett Engineering Design Solutions has been named on the shortlist for Consultancy of the Year at the 2018 British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs). The event, organised by Eureka

and New Electronics, has been running since 2009. This year, shortlisted companies attended an award lunch event in London, with the aim of showcasing the high calibre of engineering design and innovation throughout the UK. Bennett Engineering showcased

the success of a machine modernisation project with a well- known pipe manufacturer, which needed assistance in creating a new system that provided simpler and safer ways to alter products efficiently. The final design dramatically improved accuracy and there has also been no safety concerns since installation. Another notable success saw a

client request an upgrade to improve machinery within its warehouse for the manufacture and distribution of bricks. Bennett Engineering worked closely with the client to ensure all issues with the pre-existing machinery were eliminated. Since installation there has been positive feedback from the reduction of maintenance costs and increase of output. The challenge was to research

and develop an easier, cost- effective way to operate and produce an existing product. The value engineering experts delivered the final design that reduced the assembly time. The company saw production cost savings of 50%. The success of projects builds

long-lasting relationships between Bennett Engineering and its clients.

clients is imperative. Our team of dedicated design engineers provide our clients with honest opinions and practical thinking in every design challenge we are given.”
