Pera Business Park launches hot desking

New initiatives are being launched at Pera Business Park, aimed at helping freelancers, start-ups and people working away from home, who need a temporary space to keep on top of their work. City-style hot desking is being offered as a professional space to work from. Managing Director Nigel

Brown said: “Hot desking is for people who want a flexible working space, at a moment’s notice. There’s no need to book – just turn up whenever you like, set up camp at any empty desk and start working. We’ve created a working environment where people can become part of a community.”

Office move will help Rhodes’ expansion

Rhodes Wealth Management is on the move and will bring its personal touch financial advice to even more clients over the coming years. The company is moving from

Pride Park to a farm conversion in Brailsford, allowing it to expand its team. Managing Director Adam

Rhodes said: “We are excited about the move and delighted to have seen a significant increase in our client base. Our customers recognise that we differ because we go far beyond basic financial advice. As we grow, our customer-first philosophy will not change.”

English language skills supported

Derbyshire-based Commercial Language Training has been providing professional language training to businesses for 29 years, with the nationally- renowned The White Company the latest to take advantage of English training for its employees. The White Company wanted to

look at the potential benefits of English language training through the development of employees in its distribution centre. Approximately 75% of the

distribution centre workforce within The White Company do not speak English as their first language. On meeting with Commercial Language Training, a number of key objectives were outlined and achieved. An assessment day was

carried out with delegates having a short informal discussion with the English tutor followed by a grammar test to establish their level of English. The successful classes took place onsite on a weekly basis over a two-to-six week period.

Putting a new twist on film maker’s annual challenge

A film-maker from creative agency Purpose Media has undertaken a charity challenge with a twist… asking his supporters to donate blood instead of cash. John Starkie, Head of Video at the

Derbyshire marketing firm – a Chamber strategic partner - took part in the Munich Marathon with lifelong friend Terry Moore, in support of the NHS’ Give Blood campaign. But rather than raising cash

during their sponsored run, John and Terry have instead encouraged 26 people – one person for every gruelling mile of the marathon – to give blood for the first time. Donated blood is used in hospitals across the UK to help

‘The NHS’ Blood and Transplant team estimates it needs to attract around 200,000 new donors every year’

treat patients with a range of illnesses and conditions and those who have suffered life-threatening injuries or trauma. Around 900,000 people across

the UK gave blood in 2017, but the NHS’ Blood and Transplant team estimates it needs to attract around 200,000 new donors every year to keep up with demand for supplies.

To start them off, several of

John’s Purpose Media colleagues pledged to give blood and are arranging a visit from a mobile donation unit to the firm’s offices on The Village Business Park, in South Normanton. John said: “We normally do an

annual charity challenge, but this year Terry had the idea to try to find a more unusual way to support a good cause. This time, it’s wasn’t about raising money, it’s was about raising awareness of the importance of giving blood and, crucially, encouraging people to donate blood for the first time, because every pint donated makes a difference.”

A month of success for charity

The work and dedication of Leicester-based cancer research charity Hope Against Cancer was celebrated recently, with two prestigious awards recognising both its contribution to the community and inspiration to others. Having received the Community

Impact Award at the Chamber’s Business Awards, Hope Against Cancer’s Corporate and Events Fundraiser Tracey Hallam (pictured) was then named Inspirational Woman of the Year at the Leicester Mercury Women in Business Awards,

which celebrates the success of businesswomen across Leicestershire and the contribution they have made to the local community. Tracey said: “I’m determined to

ensure that anyone affected by cancer has access to better treatments, through our research. “The funds we receive go

towards funding vital cancer research locally and supporting our Hope nurse at our clinical trials facility at Leicester Royal Infirmary which we hope will ultimately lead to a world where nobody is affected by cancer.”
