Project Ruby introduces the sport to patients
Members of the Leicester Tigers Community Team have kicked off a brand new programme in Leicestershire, working with patients on the Phoenix Ward of the Herschel Prins Centre at Glenfield Hospital. The programme, delivering an introduction to rugby and promoting
regular exercise and healthy living, has been tailored towards patients with severe mental health issues and aimed at assisting their recovery while on the Glenfield Hospital Ward. The Project Rugby programme began in September and runs until the
end of the month, with a vision to extending and growing its delivery in the near future after a successful start. Leicester Tigers’ Education and Engagement Manager Dave McDonald
said: “The inaugural programme has received a positive response since it began. “It has been a positive start to a new programme for us and one we
have enjoyed undertaking, with a strong and positive reception from patients. Our Project Rugby sessions give patients with severe mental health issues an opportunity to learn a new sport and develop their rugby skills. “As well as the physical benefits of exercise, it is well known
that regular exercise has a hugely positive impact on our mental health. It reduces stress and anxiety and can relieve symptoms of depression. "We will certainly be looking to further our involvement
and grow the course with Glenfield in the short and long-term."

Cricket show and tell scores with visitors
A Cricket Derbyshire Foundation exhibition (CDF), showcasing items of memorabilia and artefacts throughout the club’s history, has proved a hit at Erewash Museum in Ilkeston. The exhibition, which was held
last month, presented a host of items collected as part of the CDF’s Heritage Project, including photographs, books, cuttings and players’ items – all showcasing cricket in Derbyshire. Members and supporters had the
opportunity to “show and tell”, bring their own artefacts and photographs, and share their memories and recollections of the game of cricket with staff and volunteers. The CDF aims to use the power
of sport to educate, motivate and inspire children, young people and adults living in Derbyshire, whatever their age, gender, religion or ability; making a lasting and positive impact on individuals’ lives.
