Members’ ages...
Battyll and Bryan Reynolds have helped steer the BTM over the last 10 years and we thank them for their valued contributions. The Chairman, Neil Bailey, presented them both with sections of Brooklands Track in recognition of their services. We welcome Martin Gegg and David Brocking- ton-Hill to the committee. At the AGM I reported on membership matters
with a cornucopia of graphs and figures. It was all a bit quick and there was a stunned silence af- terwards so I thought it best to report the high- lights here. During 2017 we saw the membership rise fairly steadily with a nine per cent increase to end the year on 6,252, with 39 per cent of those at Club level, almost the same percentage as 2016, which suggested that Club level may have peaked, although the actual numbers are higher. The price increase in March is beginning to
show its effect now with a lower renewal rate for the first half of this year. The beginning of the year saw a stronger than normal increase in total mem- bership but since 1st March there have been signs of a small dip, which may indicate that member- ship levels will not increase greatly this year. We’ll be keeping a close eye on that but if you get the opportunity to tell your friends and family about Brooklands membership then please encourage them to join! We are looking in more detail at our member-
ship demographics and you will have seen the new ‘blipper’ being used when you come in the Fast Track gate at some events. That is now being extended to be used all the time at the shop en- trance and the Campbell Gate so we can keep closer tabs on who is visiting and when. We ran a couple of figures by the audience at
the AGM – the age of new members joining showed that the most common age is 40 to 49 years with 29 per cent of all new members declaring that age group. Very few were under 30, an area we will be looking at further. Where do
48 ...and where they live.
members come from? It turns out that 84 per cent are from the KT and surrounding postcode areas, meaning that most of our members are within quick and easy reach of the Museum – perhaps not too surprising given the great events that the Museum hosts each year and the BTM evening talks and trips too, of course. Welcome Damon We introduced Damon Hill as our new President in the last issue of the Bulletin and it was great to catch up with him when he popped in to the Motorcycle Show at the beginning of July. He was incognito and here to look at the bikes, but we snaffled him onto the Outreach stand for a chat and he posed for a photo. It was great to see him just pop in like this and demonstrates the fact that everyone can take advantage of their membership by dropping in to events when the weather is great.
BTM.tv The
BTM.tv crew have been very busy again in the last couple of months and there is plenty to see on our TV channel on Vimeo – to find it go to our website at
www.brooklandsmuseum.com/ btm/archive/btmtv Look out for episodes four and five of ‘Spinning Wheels’ which feature Nic Moore’s amazing Ford Mustang and John Sutherland’s Holland & Holland Range Rover. There are also films of the Classic Car Showcase interviews that include Colin Mullan’s Goodwood Festival of Speed Concours winning Monteverdi at the BTM’s own show as well as ‘Keystone Kop’ style film of some of the classics arriving! If you missed F1 design legend John Barnard’s interview in July then that too is available to view now. Then there is the Motorcycle Show and the Double Twelve, both with filmed interviews and general views of those events, so plenty to see of Brooklands when you can’t find anything on the 250 other channels on your TV.
