he imposing grandstands of Sandown Park racecourse loom over the 900-metre out-


door kart track of Daytona Speedway, just yards from where mighty racehorses thunder around the track on race days to the roar of the crowds. There might not have been so many crowds at the Brooklands Karting Challenge but the 10 teams competing were equally as ambitious and keen to win the prestigious trophy. This is the fourth year of the Challenge which


brings racing back in the name of Brooklands, if not quite at the famous Track then at the nearest track to Brooklands today. Many years ago there was a karting track on the end of the runway at Brooklands and if you go to the country park end you can still see its outline. Occasionally karts have raced on the Mercedes-Benz World track at the other end, most notably at the Henry Surtees Foundation charity events. However, karting, as
