Steve was one of many riders who demon- strated bikes in an arena on the Finishing Straight. The innovation of an engine-start arena where
the invitation was ‘'to make some noise’ attracted the riders of two bikes and a trike, all with V8 Chevrolet engines ranging from six to eight litres! With all three revving at once, that was a new 24- cylinder sound in the history of Brooklands. Tucked away from the action, Woking Hospice ran a helmet park which was greatly appreciated
we now find ourselves looking into the final quarter of the year, where did that go? Well, from a Talks programme perspective we have packed in as many diverse and popular subjects and speakers as we could and we will continue to do so in the final part of the year and into 2019. That brings me on to some important develop-
T
ments in ‘joint working’ with the Curatorial and Education teams within the Museum. We have decided to focus jointly on several projects for the new year. These are 100 years of Bentley Motors in January, UK Science week, the French Concorde’s first flight in March, the UK flight in April and the Alcock and Brown transatlantic crossing in June, amongst other subjects. We plan to arrange pop up exhibitions along with the talks programme. On Tuesday 4th September, we have this years

per cent on 2017) and with almost 1,000 bikes on site, the organising team were highly delighted. Special thanks must go to Donna Hopton for all her work in preparation for the event, bringing in the clubs, dealers and traders, handling all the ticketing and organising the marshals on the day. It was a great day and proved yet again

conversation with our regular host Steve Parrish. Peter’s racing team, Smiths Racing BMW, have agreed to put his TT-winning machine on display for the event. We know that it will be, once again, a sell-out, so please don’t leave it to the last minute to book. On Thursday 13th September Steve Cropley,
Editor-in-Chief of Autocar, will host a look at the future of electric and hydrogen transport, ‘The car you will be driving in 10 years’ time’. I can now announce that Renault and Nissan have agreed to demonstrate their Zoe and Leaf cars on the Finishing Straight before the event. Full details will appear nearer the time on our website Steve will return on Thursday 18th October to
host ‘Cobb, Campbell and the Kings of Speed’. Our guests will also include Don Wales, grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell and a World Land Speed Record holder in his own right. November 11th 2018 will mark a very signifi-
cant moment in time as the guns on the Western Front fell silent and the horrors of the past four
