The lap record at Sandown Park for the SODI Karts is 49.1 seconds so the times were very good, with the DMAX Devils not far off almost going sub-50 seconds at a best lap time of 50.019. far as I am aware, did not take place during Brooklands’ era as a race track itself, so we are forging new ground with a Karting Challenge in the name of Brooklands today. Sadly, this year we had to drop the Junior Challenge which had been competed for the last two years due to receiving no entries, something we are still scratching our heads about. The silver lining was that the adult endurance race could be extended to run for two hours... in the 28 degrees C heat of a summer’s afternoon! I’m sure our karters were appreciative of the extra track time. The teams entered ranged across ages and


perhaps it was no great surprise that the youngest and lightest team were the eventual winners. What was more surprising was that the second placed team, TT150R, featured the oldest entrant! The top lady turned out to be Julie Izzard from the AJS Racers, actually she was the only lady racer on this occasion, we hope to see more ladies take up the steering wheel in the future. with the TT150R team runner-up. In third place was the regular Concorde Team who didn’t quite go supersonic but have graduated one place at each Brooklands Trophy Challenge. A special award was presented to any drivers over 80 years of age – step forward Tony Tobias from the TT150R team!
