Chamber, which had been spectacularly transformed into a performance space with an orchestra (made up from the Surrey County Youth Orchestra, Surrey County Youth Wind Orchestra and Surrey County Youth Jazz Orches- tra) inside the building in front of the Chamber and stages outside for the primary school and adult choirs, the main performers and dancers and the UP! Orchestra – an award-winning en- semble designed to be accessible for young people with special educational needs, as well as young people of all backgrounds and abilities, led by a team of professional musicians who support the young people and enable them to get the most out of the experience. The world premier of ‘No Sound Ever Dies’ by composer Joanna Lee and

librettist Stephen Plaice followed, a 40-minute piece that told the story of motoring pioneers and Brooklands heroes Percy Lambert and Kay Petre. This was thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd, which of course included many of the parents of the performers. Having shown what is possible, particularly

with the Stratosphere Chamber space, we hope that there will be future collaborations with Surrey Arts to bring performance and music to Brooklands. The Festival was made possible by grants from Arts Council England, the Christine Best Foundation, Elmbridge Borough Council, the R C Sherriff Trust and Arts Partnership Surrey and the Performing Rights Society.

A selection of these images have now been pub-
