county at other popular attractions, town centres and famous landmarks. To promote our nomination, we decided to

take one of our most treasured exhibits out and about on a roadshow type tour with planned stop-offs and promotion along the way. Using the excellent photographic skills of Stefan Lange and Jason Dodd, as well as valuable support from Volunteers and Robin Voice to transport the car, we took the Napier-Railton to the Watts Gallery, Hampton Court Palace, Hatchlands Park, Polesden Lacy and the Lightbox. A gallery of these superb compositions appear on the main Museum website under the ‘About’ tab. Addition- ally, we set up for the day in Guildford High Street on 6th June where the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Mike Parsons, paid us a visit, closely followed by BBC Surrey Radio who stopped by to interview us live on air. The weather was very hot and waves of bedazzled onlookers and shoppers stopped by to chat to us. Next we spent the following Saturday in Kingston, again attracting passers-by to our stand all eager to know why we were there, captivated by the sight of a giant, silver racing car in their town centre. Lastly, we were very privileged to spend a few hours at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking and run the car around the perimeter road that circles the lake in front of their vast headquarters building.

team of staff and volunteers, alongside the Napier-Railton of course, once again

This spectacle was captured by Andy Lambert with his filming drone. After it had been brought to a stop outside the main staff entrance to the building, the car was surrounded by McLaren personnel who chatted to us about its technology and history. To make the tour complete, we opened up a

competition to schools in our area to win an appearance and engine start of the car, and this was won by Kingfield School in Woking. So, we packed the transporter up one last time and made our way to visit the children on 9th July where, after four attempts, the car majestically roared into life. This was all seen from a safe distance of course and afterwards pupils surrounded the car in groups to ask questions, all ably answered by the car’s pilot for the day Allan Winn. The Woking News and Mail was there to cover the story, which made its front page the following week. Since returning from the tour, we have seen a

number of the discount entry cards that we handed out in the towns already being used and many people continue to share and comment on our social media posts which we put out in a travelogue style. We used the hashtag #Inspiredby Brooklands prompting people to say what aspect of Brooklands speaks to them and this too has gained a lot of momentum which we will continue to build on.
