69 East Cork Motoring Mike Browne All Set for Manx Grand Prix MOUNT Uniacke in
East Cork is the home place of Mike Browne, who is hoping to be the next big Irish success on the Isle of Man when he competes in the ‘Manx Grand Prix’ 18th 31st
of August until the of August and al-
ready in a short space of time, Browne has gone through the
rigorous
rounds of qualification for this prestigious event, which is a stepping stone to rubs shoulders with the likes of the Dunlop’s and the Hutchinson’s of this World at the famous ‘TT’ Races.
Originally from Rostel- lan Mike has been in love with bikes since he can re- member and is very close to realising what all motor cyclist dream of, racing at the ‘TT’ laps on the fa- mous Island course. “Since I was very young
I have always loved Motor Bikes and I have dreamt for years about getting the chance to race in the Isle
from the
of Man and after years of Motocross and circuit racing and my time on the roads in the ‘Junior Class’ I am only weeks away from achieving that dream. I was over in the Isle of Man recently at a newcomers weekend and we were
driven around
the course and it is a lot tougher than I thought it would be, between bumps, bends, pot holes and other obstructions it really is a difficult lap, but I was very excited to see it and got some sort of feel to what I am up against, I even bought the ‘Isle of Man’ PlayStation game ‘Race the TT’ to try and get some idea of the course. I am going to fly over four or five times over the next couple of weeks to get around the course a few times more before I head over on the 15th
of Au-
gust” said Browne. Mike has proved he is
top class already at venues like Cookstown, Tandra- gee, Faugheen, Skerries
and Kilalane coming sec- ond overall in the Irish ‘Junior Support’ on his Suzuki SV650 in 2016 and then improved even further on his Senior sea- son in 2017 on his race bike for the Manx Grand Prix, his Kawasaki ZX6R. Mike added “I really
enjoyed those seasons, but it is difficult to prepare for the Manx Grand Prix, so I have to do some Moto- cross, or peddled it out on the bicycle to keep myself fit and tuned in. I was de- lighted that I got into the race to be honest, it is not easy and I thought that it might take another year and what a lot of people wouldn’t realise it that you have to do your time on the bike over a year to get your licence, then there is another year to get your road licence and anoth- er licence is required to do the mountain stage of the ‘TT’ course and I had to do a year at Mondello Park and Bishopscourt to secure my road racing

licence, so to be honest I just can’t wait to race now. I will have my friend and my mechanic from the very start Hayden Walsh with me and I just couldn’t compete without him”.
Mike will race in ‘New-
comer ‘A’ and the senior Manx Grand Prix which are both run over four 37.75 mile laps with an average of 20- 25 min- utes per lap. He will have
a weeks practice and then it’s down to business. Browne concluded by
saying “I want to thank my sponsors so far, ‘Robinson Tyres’ Midleton, ‘J Keniry Contractors’ Youghal and
‘R&R Farms and Civil Engineers’ Mogeely for the support and everyone else who is behind me and I hope that a few more come on board”.
